"Very pretty area. Worth the drive out to see it. The trail is very steep, nice views from the top too."
"Incredible, unexpected vista on the northwest side of the Big Island. The concierge at our hotel told us that it would be worth the drive to go to the end of Hwy 270. We reached the Dead End sign and almost turned around, but when we saw a jeep coming back the other way, we continued on, and a breathtaking view of the coast appeared. We didn't hike the trail down to the shoreline, we just stayed in the parking area to enjoy the view. It is very windy, so be prepared! If you are able, drop a few dollars in the donation box to help maintain the natural beauty of the area."
"Amazing short hike well worth the drive. The last 10 minutes of the drive is breathtaking amongst the rain forest, twists and turns, and one way bridges. We arrived right at sunset, which I highly recommend. The view was breathtaking, and being earlier kept temps cooler for the hike. We are in good shape but hike casually. We did have shoes with grip (which I recommend). It took us 18 minutes to get down (we took our time and took photos along the way). We only spent 5 minutes at the bottom, then 13 minutes to hike back up. It is a steep hike with jagged rocks, but we did it without much difficulty. Parking lot is small and I believe they prefer hikers to park along the road and leave the lot for lookout viewers."
"What a stunning hike. But check the weather before you go. We came here a few years ago and were able to do the full hike down and explore the beautiful valley. It's absolutely breathtaking. This trip weather was too windy and rainy so we weren't able to hike for safety reasons. Will try to go back before we head home. It's a MUST if you're visiting the Big Island"
"We visited in December 1st week - The Pololu Valley Lookout is a must-visit, especially for hiking enthusiasts. It's a bit challenging, so bringing hiking poles is a good idea. The guides at the top emphasize respect for this sacred place. As you hike down, there are caution signs, so be sure to pay attention. When you reach the bottom, you'll find black sand, volcanic rocks, and beautiful beach views. Take some snacks, enjoy the water, but be cautious about swimming based on the current. The limited parking (6-7 cars) has a 10-minute limit, so if you plan to hike, park along the road. No bathrooms are available, so stop in a nearby town before starting your hike. This place is amazing but potentially risky, so be careful and stay safe."
