Reviews of Hau'ula Beach Park
"CAUTION. We camped there for three nights. The first two nights were the weekends and there were large family groups camping even though there were some homeless people as well. On the third night it was basically just us and the homeless. I didn't feel very safe when one of them asked me in the restroom where I was from... but we stayed. At 2am we were woken up with several homeless guys surrounding our tent and one of them lifting our blinders and flashing a flashlight on us. We thought we were about to be robbed. I started talking to the guy with the flashlight to buy time for my friend to call 911. He was just rambling incoherently for a long time. We waited until the cops came and asked them to wait for us to bring our camp down and leave for a hotel. They didn't do anything about the people who were harassing us. The camping site is pretty ordinary and the beach is not very pretty. The restroom stays dark at some points (in fact, was completely locked one of the nights) and there was a homeless guy basically living there. The only reason to stay here is because it's a bit easier to get permits but in my opinion just not worth it."
"Nice beach. There’s a nice shallow area for kids. Lots of druggies and homeless people hanging out here though."
"It was a cool beach and had very cheap camping. Unfortunately the road is right next to the camping area. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and mopeds were zooming by and revving their engines at all hours of the night. Aside from that the families visiting the park for the weekend were so friendly. One group has friends and family playing live music. Then the families started leaving after the weekend. Homeless people that were sleeping in the bathroom stalls all weekend started roaming the grounds. They were going in my tent while I was driving and visiting places on the north shore. One of the homeless people told me he was telling other homeless people it wasn't their tent and to stay out. But they were in there anyways. The last morning I was sleeping and some homeless lady unzipped my tent and started going inside and woke me up and I heard a guy she was with yelling to her that "someone is in the tent, don't go in! Don't go in!!""
"Nice walk in the water and picnic beach. Bathrooms, nice grass, convenient bus stop and shopping across the street. The is beach camping available by permit. Homeless people can be little bit of a problem at times. It is right of the road but far enough away from everything to be on quiet side."
"It's a nice beach park, a lot of homeless tho. Limited parking but great space on the beach, has a structure to have birthday party or bbq under. Bathrooms aren't the best but still works, has showers. The waves I recommend 3yrs and up.(supervised) Kinda rough but fun, small sand area but still able to have fun on. It's a nice beach just to walk down."
