About the Business

Wahiawā Freshwater State Recreation Area, located at 380 Walker Avenue in Wahiawa, Hawaii, is a beautiful park and tourist attraction surrounding the picturesque Wahiawa Reservoir, also known as Lake Wilson. Visitors can enjoy picnicking along the wooded shore, as well as year-round shore and boat fishing. Please note that swimming and water skiing are not permitted, and boating is only allowed for fishing purposes with a boat ramp available at the park.

The park was established in 1978 based on the Wahiawa Freshwater Park Master Plan created in 1975. In 2019, the University of Hawai‘i Community Design Center completed a study and proof-of-concept design report for the park, envisioning innovative ideas for its future redevelopment including a fishing lodge, outdoor amphitheater, disc golf course, piers, boardwalks, and wetland restoration.

Currently, improvements are underway for the park, including a new parking area, sitting areas, rain shelters, and educational signage. A public planning process is ongoing to identify further improvements, with a draft conceptual site plan expected to be completed in Summer 2023. Public input will be sought during the environmental review process, ensuring that the community's feedback is taken into account for the future development of Wahiawā Freshwater State Recreation Area.

"A chill park for fishing and to enjoy nature in Wahiawa. The park is relatively small but has the basic facilities like picnic tables, restrooms and water fountains. There's not a lot of people there so it's nice to enjoy if you like a peaceful park, but occasionally young fishing folks will blast music as they fish with their peers which adds to the local vibes. We had a lovely picnic here before continuing with the rest of our day."

"Lake Wilson, or the Wahiawa freshwater recreation area, is a fun small park with a boat ramp to a damned river freshwater lake. Shore fishing could catch you a peacock bass or a cat fish. Some of the regulars tell stories of an alligator or piranha, but always with a wink and chuckle."

"I do not like how they close so early, the park is clean but the water is not the city/ state needs to take care of this problem I thought everyone wanted to go green but this waterway speaks for itself. I highly recommend not swimming in this water either."

"What great hidden park in Wahiawa, went exploring and found this gem. Came back for a picnic and loved how empty it was and also love the picnic tables ahead throughout this park. Bathrooms are clean and the park is very well kept, I think we found our newest picnic spot! It's very small and great for exploring little toddlers."
