Hawaiian Monk Seal Beach
About the Business
Hawaiian Monk Seal Beach, located in Waialua, Hawaii, United States, is a popular tourist attraction known for its remote and wild coastline. The beach is part of Ka‘ena Point State Park, which offers hiking, picnicking, and shoreline fishing opportunities. The park consists of two sections: the Ka‘ena Point Mokuleʻia Section and the Ka‘ena Point Keawa’ula Section. Visitors can enjoy board surfing and body surfing at Keawa’ula Bay, while exploring sandy coves, tide pools, and sand dunes at the Mokuleʻia Section.
The park is also home to the Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve, located at O‘ahu’s most northwestern point. Visitors can learn more about the park's resources through interpretive signs along the Ka‘ena Point Trail. Marine Debris Drop-off Stations are available for visitors to help keep the park clean while hiking. The park also offers volunteer opportunities for those interested in stewardship and conservation efforts.
To drive a vehicle into the Ka‘ena Point State Park Reserve, a Vehicle Access Special Use Permit is required. This permit system aims to protect the landscape from degradation caused by uncontrolled four-wheel drive vehicle use. Visitors are reminded to follow park rules, such as no dogs, no drones, and no camping. Let's protect and preserve the natural beauty of Ka‘ena Point State Park for future generations to enjoy.

"Top point north of Oahu island, beautiful with fresh clean ocean"
"Truly a beautiful location and we felt lucky getting to see 2 seals. Bring your telephoto lens! Please follow the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) viewing guidelines and view solo monk seals from at least 50 feet (15 meters) away—on land and in water. View mother seals and their pups from at least 150 feet (about 45 meters) away."
"Nice, secluded and clean beach you can swim in it. Part of the hike. We did see a monk seal but please stay 150 feet away when you see it they are endangered. Please bring water and use bathroom before hand. There isn’t much shade. So bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat. Change of clothes if you want to swim on the hike. The hike itself is magnificent as well. There aren’t many garbage cans on the hike so please bring your own garbage bags as well."
"A beautiful walk, I recommend you walk along the coast when you come here. We came around 2 o’clock in the afternoon and the walk took us 40 minutes to get in in about 25 minutes to get back. Unfortunately we didn’t see any seals, make sure you bring lots of water"
"What a nice tucked away beach. It seems some local seals enjoy a little break here from time to time. It’s quite the hike to get here but once you are here, sit back and enjoy the view. Please understand that there are efforts for conservation around here so please enjoy this area respectfully. If you do see a seal, please keep your distance, as they need their rest, and it’s the law. We appreciate your cooperation!"
