Reviews of West Maui Forest Reserve
"Best to unwind on the way up and take the time coming down with zero comparison elsewhere."
"Unbelievably beautiful place but this is a hard trail With steep climb It is also wet, muddy and very slippery. So bring hiking poles and sturdy shoes."
"Maui Outdoor Adventures - ATV Adventure was how we explored this land. The land itself is beautiful and the crew at Maui Outdoor Adventures is great! Fun fact, for every tour they run, they plant a tree in the reserve to aid in the reforestation of Maui, at no additional cost to the participants. The trails were awesome and there are some spectacular views. Highly recommend!"
"Tropical bliss! The mountains, the steamy clouds, the ocean, and the Hawaiian sunshine all combine to make this a great area to explore on Maui. I did the Waihe’e Ridge Trail and it was easy - moderately difficult (would be slippery in the rain), but offered spectacular views. Great warmup for Haleakala and more accessible for casual hikers. Also it’s on a less trafficked portion of Maui, so it is unlikely to be as clogged with tourists as the Road to Hana."
"This is a beautiful hike along a lush mountain ridge with excellent views of the surrounding verdant canyon. There are a few impressive waterfalls that can be seen from a distance. We hiked after a rain and the trail was a bit muddy but not overly slippery with hiking shoes. The advantage of the rain was that we were able to witness a large double rainbow at the top. Don't get discouraged as the first part of the hike is VERY steep up a paved trail. The trail levels off after a short bit and is much easier and more scenic following the initial challenge. We very much enjoyed this hike and would recommend it as moderately difficult."
