Reviews of Hawaii Tokai International College
"Please read this if you are interested in this school. First of all, I know this school as a student. I would like to share with you my thoughts while attending school. As you can see from the number of stars, I do not recommend this school. If you want to study abroad, go to a mainland university. If you are in Hawaii, we strongly recommend that you start with the preparation process at KCC or the University of Hawaii at Manoa. - I won't be able to speak English At school and in the dormitory, everyone speaks Japanese. Due to the structure of the class, students will be asked to write essays to some extent. - There is a difference in the quality of teachers, and talented teachers are quitting. - Most of the security guards and staff are negligent. The night guard is asleep. People who call themselves Internet people are just surfing the Internet in a cool room. I have been appealing for improvements to the WIFI since I first entered the school, but nothing has been done. - WIFI is terrible. Instagram stories won't even load. - Rural area where you can't do anything without a car - As part of the International program (IP), we invite many students from Japan and Korea. However, basically the dormitory is dirty and the WIFI is bad, so there is no advantage. - I use the attached University of Hawaii cafeteria as part of my meal plan, but it's slow. Unpalatable. expensive. It's very difficult if you come from a Japanese perspective. - You can feel safe as it is basically only Japanese people. - The staff called OSS who support students are very talented and helpful. - Safe because it's in the countryside - Easy to graduate Because it only adopts the best parts of Japanese and American culture, there are many things that don't make sense. I hope this helps you."
"My English is seriously not improving at this school, and the tutors are not reliable at all (there are some who are reliable, but they are few). The library and Student Services Office (OSS) hours are short, the cafeteria hours are inconsistent, the wifi environment is poor, the shuttle bus is late, and the schedule is a mess. Also, the school facilities are bad (especially toilets, showers, and library). And tuition fees are also high. In the college program (there are levels from CP1 to 5), if you fail even one subject, you will have to retake the subject, or if your TOEFL (iTP) score does not meet the level of your preparatory course (CP1 410 points, CP2 420 points) , CP3 430 points, CP4 440 points, CP5 450 points) are decided to be retaken. For example, I scored 420 on the placement test (TOEFL iTP, writing (approximately 50 minutes), interview with a foreign teacher (about 5 to 10 minutes)), my writing was 450 words, and I met a foreign teacher with a score of 420. He was very talkative during the interview. As a result, my class will start from CP2. In that case, you will not be able to advance unless you get a 2.5 GPA and 420 points on the TOEFL iTP. ) These systems are not available in the liberal arts program. I think that's strange. This is because the preparatory program has a limit on the number of times that it can be retaken (CP1 to 2 can be retaken up to three times, and CP3 to 5 can be retaken up to two times). This will determine whether or not you will be forced to leave school. This system also does not exist in the main course. Also, the TOEFL iTP is only held on the Thursday of the last week (weeks 1 to 10), and that is the only time you can take the TOEFL. This will determine whether you can advance or not. Even if you go to a regular course, there are no classes where you can specialize in the classes of your own department. Main points ·good point → Even if your TOEFL iTP score does not meet the score of the class you belong to, if you have a GPA of 3.7 or above, 10 points will be added to your TOEFL iTP score. In that case, you may be able to advance. (Example: My class CP1 GPA3.7, TOEFL iTP 400 points Anything less than that will not be added. Instead, you must score 420 points or higher at the next level. ) → You can be promoted even if your TOEFL iTP score in your class is lower than the previous one. This is because your highest TOEFL iTP score will be recorded for one year. But if it's 100 points lower than last time, it's no good. (Example: CP1: TOEFL iTP score 440 points (condition 410 points) Promotion possible CP2: 415 points (condition 420 points) Advancement possible CP3: 407 points (condition 430 points) Advancement possible CP4: 437 points (condition 440 points) Advancement possible CP5: 449 points (condition 450 points, cannot be promoted) →If you have English qualifications such as TOEFL iTP 420 points or higher, TOEIC 490 to 550 points or higher, or Eiken level 2 or higher before enrolling at HTIC, you can enter CP2 or higher in the placement test conducted at the time of admission. In that case, you can be promoted even if your TOEFL iTP score does not meet the score requirements for the class you belong to (the deadline cannot be passed) → No curfew (classroom, student dormitory, outside time, etc.) →If your TOEFL iTP score is 450 or higher on the placement test taken at the time of admission, you can be promoted to the next grade (depending on the number of students entering the class, there is a possibility that students with CP5 or above will be admitted) Bad points →Poor facilities (toilets, shower rooms, library, gym) →Library and cafeteria hours are short. →In the regular course, there are no promotion conditions like in the preparatory course. → Even if you advance to the regular course, you will not be able to specialize in the undergraduate department you want to attend. →TOEFL iTP test frequency is low →English is not improving despite paying high tuition fees →Everyone living in the student dormitory (HTIC students) will be forced to leave the dormitory after winter break. This is because during the winter break, I will be doing equipment maintenance or cleaning the dormitory. But even when I go back to school or the dormitory, things haven't changed and they're still dirty. →The shuttle bus arrival time and timetable are messed up. →Security is a mess"
"Excellent college which is part of a large Japanese University system. The institution has the highest retention, graduation, and transfer rate in Hawaii. It is also the cheapest overall, even though all of its facilities are brand new, modern, and classrooms are restricted to no more than 18 students. If you want an education at the Gateway to the Pacific, this is the place to go."
"Great educational facility for foreign students... China, Japan, Korea"
"It is located a 10-15 minute walk from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Currently it is located around Waikiki, but in 2014, Apparently they are moving to Kapolei, a little further away."
