"Out of all the beaches in Maui, this is the best one for seeing turtles. Almost guaranteed you will see MANY turtles on the beach and swimming in the water. The cons: this beach is WAY too windy. Not a place you can lounge for the day. The wind is so great that it whips up the sand and stings you. Not ideal for children."
"Loved the beach, it has a strong current, but because of the riffs, waves break before coming to the beach"
"Amazing beach for kids, adults, family EVERYONE!!! This is hands down one of my favorite beaches in ALL of Maui!! You get everything, baby beach has a reef that block the big waves making it amazing for kids and if you want a little more excitement you can walk in the sand around the corner and experience the big waves. Great snorkeling, watching airplanes land is cool and SO MANY SEA TURTLES!! I love this beach!!!"
"Beautiful beach with light blue/green waters. The barrier keeps the big waves from crashing into the shoreline but the water was noticeably colder than the southwest and sand rougher. There are trees for shade which was great but we didn’t end up staying long because the wind picked up and blew sand everywhere. Parking is limited but we didn’t have trouble finding a spot on a Sunday ~11am - possibly due to the wind. Still, a very pretty beach and different scenery than the west side."
"Beautiful beach in Paia. Outside the tourist areas, so it was relatively quiet each time we have gone. It is much windier on this side of the island, where 15-25 mph winds are typical, and the water is a bit cooler than the western side. There is a coral wall that helps keep the shoreline calm for swimming, but be cautious as the current is VERY strong and it would be easy to get swept out to sea if you swim close to the end of the coral."
