Swim with Hoku LLC

"I'm not going to lie, I was skeptical after the first lesson. But our very busy 21 month old LOVES the water and had no fear, so we knew swimming and survival skills were needed asap. After just three lessons, she was asking to go to swim whenever we tried to leave the house and would have so much fun at her lessons. Keep in mind, she is a water baby so she warmed up to this quickly. The first lesson, she was very confused as to why she was being put under the water so often. I think I could have prepared her for this better had I known that was on the agenda-- for example-- (1) I would have started working on breath holds 3 weeks prior to the lesson doing a countdown "1, 2, 3, hold your breath." One thing that I think helped tremendously was (2) practicing straight kicks in the bathtub on her belly from the time she was 14ish months. It wouldn't hurt to also start (3) pouring water over their face in the bathtub and making it a game of holding their breath, so they aren't as shocked during their first lesson. Those are my three pieces of advice to work on the months prior to taking these lessons. Ultimately, Hoku and Rachele were extremely helpful, professional, and intentional in their methods for these swim lessons. The format of two weeks straight (one day break) for 10 minutes a day really worked for our little one, it was just enough time in the pool and the consistency she needed to build skills. We are so proud of her, and she feels confident in the water. The last day, Hoku taught us how to continue her swimming skills on our own-- so we also gained confidence in how to keep moving forward with her progress.
