"Lived here for years and every year it's getting worse. Kids and teenagers are out of control setting dumpsters on fire they hangout in stairways smoking cigarette's and pulling fire alarm pull stations. Fire alarms are set off pretty frequently here and no one really comes to check, even fire department are tired of coming for false alarms. If they can't fix the fire alarm problem it stays silenced and in trouble mode so if there's a real fire our alarm system wouldn't alert the residents. Office staff changes every year as well as resident managers. They don't pay their vendors we had security (2 companies). If you're looking for a safe place for your family I suggest keep looking. This is not my first choice to live."

"This is a very nice place to live when you get to be as old as I am. And the price is right. Lots of good people live here and I'm proud to call them my friends. We also have a weekly Bible study on Tuesday night at 6 pm. I've read some of the other reviews and I would just like to remind people that no matter where you live, no matter what state or city, you always have the good and the not so good people. Choose the right people to be friends with and stay out of the back biting, do your part to make the place you live to be a better place, and love those who live around you. Look out for each other and be good to one another. Help keep your home and family safe, don't depend on security, depend on yourself just to be sure. The picture of the bridge is a short cut between the two Hale Mohalu Apartments. A lot of people use it to get on the other side of the grave yard and up to the Church. And others use it to get to the Bus stop and gas station and Skippy's and so on."
"This place was great when it was first built, but started going downhill within a year. The only reason I give this place 3, not 2 star rating is because of affordability and modern construction (like sprinklers in units). Management was good at first, but is now a joke. They have lost our paperwork many times and sent us threatening notices after we'd already submitted it. Every time there is a new property manager (been through 3 in 3 years), the office is in total disarray. The latest was when they needed every tenant to submit updated car insurance, registration and inspection info (even if you just gave it all to them a couple months ago) because they had screwed up and double-assigned some parking stalls! They've also tried to swindle myself and other tenants with supposed late rent fees. They even held my check and cashed it ON THE 11th, which is the day late fees are incurred. If you move here, you need to watch these people in the office like hawks. They've notified tenants that the playground will be closed at 5PM from now on due to children not being supervised. Why do we have security, then? Isn't it security's job to enforce the rules? Makes it very unfair for those of us who do follow the rules and work during the day and want to take our kids to the playground when we get home after 5. Laundry rooms are on almost every floor, which would be great if the machines actually worked! Not sure why the Mac-Gray signs were taken down, because now you have to notify management if a machine is down, and God only knows when it will be fixed. Doesn't help when there are tenants who literally do several lbs of laundry all day long, never clean the lint traps in the dryers, and don't take care of the machines. The laundry rooms close at 8PM now (used to be 10). Whoever makes these rules for this "family housing" obviously doesn't have children and has no idea what it's like to have children get sick in the middle of the night and have to wait til morning with dirty bed sheets sitting in the apartment overnight. Seems they finally fixed the issue with trash piling up over the weekend. They had 1 trash bin for each 6 floor bldg, and over the weekend, it would get so bad that the trash room would be filled with garbage overflowing out of the bin. Took almost a month to get that cleaned up last time, and that's finally when they got a second bin. Again, more of those rules from people who have no idea what it's like to have kids. But there is ALWAYS a pile of bulky garbage under the "No bulky items" sign by the trash rooms. Kids play King of the Mountain on it every time, and again, security is nowhere to be found. There's a security guard who leaves catfood in the parking lot under cars for all the stray cats that live here. The bushes everywhere smell like a giant litter box. The units themselves are OK and quiet, but the plaster walls chip easily (don't let any furniture touch them) and the blinds and handles on the drawers and cabinets fall apart. The entire place was built on the cheap, and it shows. There are NO BATHTUBS here. All of the bathrooms were designed ADA accessible (whether by accident or on purpose, I have no idea), but this ends up being wasted space. A giant, empty bathroom with a tiny stand-up shower. This place is supposed to be non-smoking, but the stairways always smell like cigarettes or weed, especially when it's raining. Again, security is nowhere to be found. Watch out for the resident self-appointed parking enforcement. She always parks her car in the handicapped stall in front of the Kalaupapa Ohana building even though she has assigned parking and DOESN'T EVEN LIVE IN THAT BUILDING. We were told by management that the two handicapped spaces and the zone inbetween could be used as loading/unloading, especially understandable if you shop in bulk/have small children. This lady will call the police on you if you don't have a handicapped tag on your car. She even did it to a company that was cleaning a unit that someone died in!"
