Reviews
"If you're staying in Hilo, this is the place to stay, hands down. Beautiful views from pretty much all rooms in a cozy and comfortable old home. Super easy to come and go with the system they have, and it is literally right off a main road running down to Kamehameha avenue. Add to that the pretty yard and lanai area, pleasant and helpful owners and staff and a very reasonable price point... I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I had a wonderful stay and if I'm ever in Hilo again, I'll be coming back for sure. I did want to address two things as regards negative reviews: It seems that in the past there may have been different management and things might not have been so rosy. I can assure you, if my review hasn't already, any past issues are just that: the past. As for the whole territorial neighbors schtick some people have gone with? Baloney. No issue from any of the neighbors (even though it seems some guests have given them issues and I watched it happen.) Just be pono (respectful) and use your brain and you'll be fine. Parking is definitely tight, but there's a clear delineation between 57 Hina St. (The Vacation Rental) and the neighbors. They were also very polite when people were out of line, so. Great, cozy place to stay, the owners seem like great people, and you can even walk to town pretty easy if you don't feel like getting the car out (just bring a poncho!)."
"We rarely write a poor review through our travels. The positives were that there was a beautiful view from the suite, the room was clean, a nice deck for our suite and the lady responded to our texts promptly. I had originally seen the property through Hilo Vacation rentals which I now am guessing is a mgmt company. We never met the owners who lived on the site. A lady texted us and did answer our requests. From the pictures displayed we thought we were getting a shared kitchen with our suite but did not. So. Beware when booking. This is just above a hostel level of accommodation as mentioned in previous reviews The room was sparse on furniture - no chairs to sit on to even watch TV or eat some food, other than one wooden desk chair even though there was a microwave and coffee pot. There was plenty of room to put 2 chairs and a small table which should have been there. There were many rules and we had to ask for more toilet paper and a change of old stained sheets that were on the bed. Parking was very tight but there were not a lot of clients there. Also BRING good earplugs. We were woken up every morning early by the owners rooster, hens, dogs barking. For the rate that we paid, we expected much more."
"Wonderful place. Very well maintained and clean. Nice updates and beautiful original doors, windows and fixtures. I haven't seen crystal door knobs since my grandmothers house, she is 93. We were greeted by snowball, loving and purring with delight to show us around her pad. We had Room 3, super comfy bed, air conditioning and louvers if needed, tremendous views. The living room/common area was awesome and the pool table played great. We glimpsed a couple people sitting in the garden but not anyone else. We felt a good vibe and hopefully you will too when you stay here."
"The reason why you get a long text about being mindful of the neighbors because the neighbors hate this house being used for a rental home. Don't even think about parking on the street although it's a free street and you have to be quiet. Location is great but lots of rules to be staying at this place."
"We had a wonderful overnight stay at the Hilltop Legacy. The property is a family home, and it really shows in the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable overnight stay. The location was perfect, as it was just a short drive from downtown Hilo. We loved the views from our room, and enjoyed spending time on the outdoor patio. The owners were incredibly welcoming and helpful, providing us with recommendations for things to do in the area. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others."
