Reviews of Ahi Hale
"Charged $170 cleaning fee for two rooms which were anything but clean. Overpriced to begin with, but to nearly double the cost with a cleaning fee is absurd. Both fridges, one in the room and one in the kitchen, both had leftover food in them and smelled absolutely disgusting. Opened them for maybe 5 seconds but the smell lingered for hours. Only one room has private bathroom. Owner did not pick up the phone to let us in, thankfully the neighbors helped. The "no refunds" policy is very clearly stated--I can now see why."
"Very poor service, no one was there when I checked in and when I called they never answered the phone, I called the day before to confirm and Nothing. The booking site couldn't get a hold of then as well. The Number listed isn’t even the write number for the location. The location was run down with trash all over and broken furniture. There was foul smell as well. There neighbor even said they didn't know where they were. When the booking site finally emailed them she gave a different number. When I called the lady was very rude said she didn’t care and that there were no refunds even though I was incoveniced by no one being there. She hung up the phone. If your planning to visit Hawaii you can do a lot better anywhere else but at the Ahi Hale a better name would be “Ahi HELL!” For horrible service and location. This was definitely the worst part of my trip to Hawaii!"
"Worst ever accommodation experience ! When I arrived at Ahi Hale in Kona Kailua, I’ve realized it wasn’t an hotel but an inhabited house with an access code that the owner omitted to give me. Since she didn’t answer to my messages and calls, after a while I had to call Booking. Eventually, after one hour and an half, I was able to enter in the house without any excuse from the owner. There, I’ve found that wifi was blocked, the toilet flush was broken and there were cockroaches in the bathroom. But this isn’t finished. Since unfortunately I booked it for two different dates, the second one, when I came back late to the house, I discovered that the owner put out all my stuff and changed the room access code because my card had been blocked by my bank. Either I could pay (but I had only one bank and it was Sunday local time) or I need to leave what I did at night. I even wonder how booking could have listed this sh…."
"Called this place to get a hotel for the night as my flight was canceled. originally get charged 215$ for a dirty, cockroaches everywhere, dirty dishes still in sink, trash overflowing, bed was still slept in from the previous people, and dirty towels all over the bathroom floor. When I confronted Vic, the guy that booked me over the phone. He offered a 75$ refund, or to bring clean sheets, towels, and blankets. I took the offer on the clean linens. He arrived about 20 minutes lates, with no clean blankets, but 3 sets of clean sheets for one bed. Now, 2 days later. They are trying to charge my card another 163.79$. I called to ask why and they said that 215$ was a really good price and they werent trying to charge me more; even though I have my credit card statement showing overwise. Needless to say I will NEVER recommend this place to anybody. Customer Service was 1/10 and the room itself was just as bad. Do not recommend."
"Spend the extra money, and don’t stay here. While we found the place to be tidy and comfortable, the communication and listing were entirely unhelpful and inaccurate. While we got the “private studio” it was essentially a master bedroom within a shared apartment with other guests who did not know it was a shared space. We had an a awkward moment running into them in the living space with a “ugh we didn’t realize other people were staying here” which was awkward and could’ve been avoided with better communication. The landlord did not have the room ready, and we had to hunt her down in order to get the room code (which we got several different codes for and had to follow up continuously until getting the correct information). I called her about an hour after our check in time was supposed to be ready to confirm the room number and code and she told me we were “free to go now, but she would be by to clean it up in 30 minutes or so”. Again the room was already supposed to be ours at this point, but had not been cleaned or prepared. When we got there, two and a half hours after our check in time, when she told us the room would be ready, no towels were provided and the trash can was still full from previous guests and the shower was clearly untouched as well. The comforter smelt of smoke, and the smoke detector had been removed from the wall entirely. She gave two different room codes on the phone, and I had a bad feeling about it, so I texted her to confirm, and she gave me two totally different codes. The building is not very well marked either. Later on, we went out for the evening, and upon returning the driveway was totally packed with cars! Very confused about where they belonged and why. We were worried about noise with all the cars, but it was not disruptive. I texted her to double check about our parking spots, and she responded rather rudely regarding the race of the guests in the back apartment as being the reason for all the cars. The whole experience was just sketchy. If you can, definitely spend a little extra money to stay somewhere else. My husband and I are pretty chill about renting places, we’ve stayed in yurts, tiny houses, cabins, and aren’t complainers. So to write a review such as this is rare! The whole experience was just simply chaotic, if we were to do it again, we would’ve stayed elsewhere. The booking agreement could’ve benefited from more transparency and information so that playing telephone with the landlady wasn’t necessary. Anyhow, enjoy the island!"
