Barking Sand Beach Cottages

"These are very nice cottages in my opinion. It had everything we needed, cookie sheets, oven, washer/dryer in the unit. The location is a bit out there for getting to other things but the drive to the east side isn’t too bad. Our favorite beach was Poipu which was about 40 minutes away. Don’t leave your doors open for long as the chickens will come in! The beach was a bit less useable for us than I’d hoped as it’s too rough for little kids to swim and they were disappointed we couldn’t play at the playground on base. Also you have to be able to swim to use the slide at the pool. The NEX did have more than most but no fresh fruit and limited healthy snacks like hummus."

"Awesome cabins on the beach. Woke up to a bunch of wild Nene outside in the grass. Beautiful spot, great price, beach sand is very soft and clean, cool fire pit and bbq area. Love it!"

"Stayed here a couple of times while visiting my brother. Highly recommended for military families. Cant get any better than having a beautiful cottage right on the beach in Kauai. Splurge for the units with the a/c, if they haven't upgraded all of them yet. It helps block out the sounds of the geckos and roosters!"

"To start, I will say that this is a great little get-away spot. While you have to reserve 6+ months in advance, it's priced at a very reasonable price-point and there are tons of amenities through MWF. Now to my stay: I booked two nights and upon returning the second night, my cottage was infested with termites. I easily spent over two hours going through kill-sweep-repeat cycles. I thought that bringing it up at checkout would warrant something more than "oh I'm really sorry about that", but it did not. I left a written review and brought it up to staff to no avail. While I realize this isn't a Hilton/Marriott, I suspect that a bug infestation would warrant something for the inconvenience. Further, the indoor furniture is quiet dated, the outdoor patio furniture seemed like it hasn't been cleaned in years, and there was an old grill with caution tape around it (just remove it already!). I'm not sure I'd stay there again even for the price."
