'Ai Pono Hawaii - Residential Eating Disorder Treatment Center

"Would not recommend. Had a terrible experience here. They messed up my insurance and I was almost stranded on the streets in Hawaii due to their mistake (that I ended up fixing ON MY OWN). Very mismanaged and numerous people during my stay, including me were kicked out when the one's who stayed were very unreasonably favorited and bullies. They say they specialize in trauma but they are not equipped to address trauma in each of the residents. Only certain client's receive adequate trauma support. The only positive thing was the setting."

"I had a wonderful experience at ʻAi Pono. The staff were very kind and compassionate towards me and my situation. I LOVED my therapist Jamee, she played a huge part in my recovery and advocated for me within the center to promote mindfulness/intuitive eating practices that were in service of my recovery. All of the staff ranging from the CNAs, Psych Techs, Therapists, and the Board had my best interest in mind. My stay was 3 months long - although it was hard work, I never felt alone in the recovery process. As I spent more time in the program, I was able to lead a peer group and teach the other women how to make tī leaf lei and share my culture. We also were able to spend most weekends at the beach or at ʻĪao Valley to decompress. Lots of opportunities for creative outlets and expression as well.
