"In the last few years I have referred dozens of people/families to Dr. Banks and all have been very happy with his professionalism, compassion, quality of care, and intelligence regarding diagnosis and prescribing of medications. He is highly careful in how he handles prescribing and stopping medications. He has single handedly helped save many young people I know of from serious self destruction. I have no idea why there are a few bad reviews here. My recommendation is that if you or a family member needs a psychiatrist, see for yourself if Dr. Banks helps you. "Posting this on behalf of my loved one. Dr. Banks shouldn’t be allowed within 10 feet of a prescription pad, let alone a patient. He put my wife on so many medications that made her feel so bad, and when she reached out to him about it, he told her to quit cold turkey. We spent the weekend in and out of the emergency room for extreme withdrawal symptoms. His assistant, Kristy, was also awful. When calling to confirm my wife’s appointment, she said “you still want your appointment? Cuz we have lots of other people who are on the waitlist.” That should have been the red flag right there, but Dr.Banks was the only psychiatrist at the time taking new patients. I know the choices are so slim in Maui, and so many providers are either retired or not taking new patients, but please, please avoid Dr.banks like the plague. He is a horrendous human being and should be deeply ashamed of himself."

"I would not recommend this man. He recommended an extremely aggressive taper in medication which caused significant withdrawal symptoms. After a month struggle, I sought and found another doctor who monitors a much slower taper and I am safely working toward a medication free life. Don’t trust Dr. Banks."
