"Went to ER not once but twice. First was for a family member with a possible fracture... took great care, communicating and with Compassion! 2nd visit was a prior injury involved hardware that ruptured through skin... from.ER checkin to testing to OR, all the nurses, doctors, xrsy, lab and specialists were amazing...compassionate and extremely caring... wish we had this quality of care back home in the Mainland!"
"The radiation department is excellent. Dr. Tsai is extremely knowledgeable and patiently takes the time to answer questions. Every staff member is compassionate and kind. Together, they are an awesome team!"
"Overall, I've been pleased with my care. I transferred my ongoing cancer treatment to the KCH oncology infusion center in July 2022. The nurses have been consistently kind, caring and professional. Administrative staffing was stretched way too thin during the computer system transition. I did have to persist and be my own advocate to get the correct referral to a breast cancer specialist in Honolulu. It took 2 months. Recently Miko was added to the oncology staff. She's a great addition--consistently positive, kind, efficient, and demonstrates warm caring. I've also had three visits to the ER. The triage nurses on duty have been excellent. The visits were not for serious injuries. I didn't wait long before I saw an excellent doctor and the kind support staff. A kitchen knife cut, cellulitis, and0 a toe requiring stitches. The toe injury occurred on my walk to the entrance from my parking spot. I had planned to get a blood test. I went to the ER instead. I peeled several layers of skin off my big toe after tripping on your sidewalk. I got stitches. The parking situation is not acceptable.. Yesterday I saw a mother alone with 2 young boys, one hurt. Obviously, she couldn't drop the child at emergency. She had to find parking far from the entrance She stopped to ask me if there was a way to cut through and get to emergency faster. There isn't. This hospital has areas needing serious upgrades. My understanding is most of the funding goes to Hilo. We need and deserve a good hospital on the Kona side of the island. Please create better awareness of your funding needs within our communities. Please explain how community members can help KCH get the funding you need for building renovations, adequate staffing to provide timely care, and increased parking. Please"
"I had an excellent experience with the OB ward at KCH. From the prenatal classes and orientation tour through to the actual delivery experience and recovery days, the KCH team did a great job. The nursing staff are attentive and so caring, I felt like we were amongst friends the whole time. In recovery so many different support specialists came to help, from lactation consultant to community resources social worker to administrative staff helping with paperwork. The facilities were comfortable and the meals were tasty and nutritious. A special shout-out to the night nurses for taking excellent care of us new moms and babies! I feel lucky to have delivered at KCH."
"I would NOT go here if had a cold much less dying. This was a clown circus from the first person we spoke to insisting that if we were in the ER yet went inpatient to drive 1.5 hours to the OTHER Kona community. What a complete joke from the person in ER who callously checked us in to the nurse whose didn’t see an enlarge dVT in the patient after 5 hours of covering him up with blankets. Their attitude was nothing short of disturbing and I would say that everyone needs to find another line of work because caring for anyone else here was NOT found by one single soul. I can’t imaging the negligence taking place on an hourly basis here. Beware is all I have to say. And a waste of time and ginger if you want clowns to work on you. Literally did an extant on a patient next door with zero protection for us in the very next bay only divided by curtains. What the heck? Not acceptable unless possibly in a third world country. And maybe during a time of war but guess what - none of those apply here."
