"My father in law has been here twice in the last 3 days. The first time he was there because of high blood sugar. He was then diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. They gave him some metformin and sent him on his way even though he was telling them he as experiencing some significant vision loss. Two days later (last night), we’re on the phone with him to check on him and he tells us that he feels very weak and dizzy and to our surprise, that he hasn’t taken his metformin or his blood pressure medication or checked his sugar because HE CANT SEE!! Then we start noticing that he’s not making sense. He’s very confused and doesn’t seem to know what he’s saying. He tells us he’s seeing black, red and yellow dots and he can’t see so he can’t find his medicine. We call EMS because not only does he likely have high blood sugar which as a fellow diabetic, I recognize the symptoms but most likely has high blood pressure since he hasn’t taken his meds and then now he can’t even see. They take him to the ER and we ask to talk to the doctor. Their signal is horrible and we can barely make out what they’re saying. We don’t even know if he was given insulin, and then they tell us they’re waiting on a sugar check? Why can’t they at least prick his finger in the meanwhile to get the ball rolling? Then after all this they just send him home. They sent this older man who’s by himself home with still a high blood sugar, and no way to check it because the monitor he got from the pharmacy didn’t work, who is partially blind at this point and is dizzy and very unsteady and confused. He goes home and bam, he falls. They did absolutely nothing for him. Just sent him home to what? Stroke out, is that what they want? Completely unacceptable."
"This place is just SO unethical… you cannot trust this administration, whatsoever. If you are going to see another Doctor, Do NOT let these people make the referral for you. They will get you blacklisted. I can’t believe what I am going through because of this lousy hospital! This doesn’t even feel legal… I found a perfect doctor for handling my health issue who was accepting patients, and now magically I’ve been declined after I tried working with HMC to make the transfer happen. It’s just so gross. How do they sleep at night when they do this to other human beings? These administrators have children, for goodness sake, what abomination!"
"All the staff were very kind and respectful, especially the blonde nurse woman with glasses. The entrance emergency security were absolutely not and created a toxic relationship from the beginning of an otherwise very good establishment, shame."
"My husband had a heart procedure here and the dr and nurses, including support staff were all great, efficient, friendly. There is aloha here. Today was an especially high volume day and if you are willing to be patient, you will do just fine. Hats off to Dr. Najam Awan as well as Dr Andrew Murray, nurses, all of them, big mahalo. Very happy that HMC has a cardiology suite on the island."
"I was transported by ambulance to the ER while on vacation. I can’t tell you about the ER Room because I wasn’t coherent but I can tell you that my experience with the nurses, doctors and all staff was excellent!! I felt like they cared and went out of their way to make me comfortable and explained my medications as they were administered. My adult children have recounted the ER Room experience as diligent and I’m grateful that they were diligent and literally saved my life as I had sepsis."
