"Dr. Lai is a good and kind doctor but his staff is simply horrendous. If you need to obtain referrals for follow up care that Dr. Lai himself has recommended or refills for your current medications, you will need to call/email several times to remind his very incompetent and rude staff. It can take weeks to get a reply from his office, if you ever get a reply. Don't send emails through the patient's portal, as it seems that no one checks those emails, and if you call, no one ever calls back. The nurses are impersonal and abrupt. The waiting room is depressing, and the exams rooms look dirty (wet-stains on the upholstery, damaged furniture, no soap or hand sanitizing in the rooms, no gloves, dirty floors...) Often the person who answers the phone has limited understanding of English (sadly I don't speak cantonese or mandarin). It is just a very unpleasant experience, both in person and via phone or email. I have move on and found a new provider. 2 start for doctor, sadly his staff is destroying his practice."

"A nice doctor but a fantastic doctor if you want to die. If you're over 60 and sick then according to this doctor it's your time to go. First he was negligent in the diagnosis of my brother, who is now dead and buried, now he is doing the same for my father. FYI, the staff are great and could do better. Update, yep, my father is now dead. Great medical care."

"Dr.Tung Lai is the best family practice in San Diego Area. He is caring and of great passion to take care of his patients and with high quality treatment and follow up! My mom Falak Al Kassas has been very happy with his professional service since 2010."

"Dr. Lai is extremely nice, however the staff members are kind of rude. Getting an appointment date however is extremely hard. If you're sick and need an appointment asap to get medicine don't even bother calling, you won't be able to get an appointment date till at least a couple weeks later. Say you have the flu, and you need medication right away, by the time you get an appointment date your flu has probably worsened and you would have turned to urgent care/ER by then. It is always so booked. No point in choosing this doctor really except for his specific customer service really. EDIT: I went back to this doctor to get my wrist checked out without an appointment this time. It was a Thursday and also the first time they have ever accepted me without having already made an appointment. A year ago whenever I would come here it was always booked and I could hardly ever be able to get an appointment. This clinic has definitely changed for the better. The receptionists and the other ladies that worked there a year ago seem to no longer be there, and they have all new ladies (or maybe they are still the same; I can't remember) but they are all very kind now. Definitely way less hostile and judgmental. Friendly faces all around! 2 stars --> 4 stars!"
