"Very few of the sea shells they sell are from Hawaiian waters (despite their misleading claims) and even fewer are ethically collected. The vast majority are live-harvested from overseas, likely India and/or the Philippines, then slowly dried out to kill and remove the critter inside which created the shell. (National Geographic did an eye-opening article on the sea shell tourist trade, if you want to Google it.) If you see something here that makes a cute souvenir and you are fine with the true backstory, then go for it. But if you are searching for a keepsake that is actually from Hawaii... or something ethically collected... look elsewhere."

"I take all my guests here! This year I've even purchased Christmas gifts here. There's a large selection of items, big & small, all for a reasonable price. If you want shells, this is the place! The owner was even kind enough to show us the conch shells & how to blow them to make different noises. He also wraps items if you're traveling or will be shipping them. He's very nice & willing to tell you about the products, like what they're made out of or where they come from. Make sure you check out inside the stand too! There are lots of little unique items inside. This place is actually called Hawaii Moon, according to their receipt."

"My mother-in-law was specifically looking for a conch shell to bring back as a souvenir to the mainland. I knew the Sea Shell Man was the place to go. They have everything shell you could possibly want – wind chimes, wall décor, room separators – plus key chains and even beautiful wood souvenirs and they have the CUTEST wooden signs. The owner is super cool. This is absolutely a ‘must stop’ place that I highly recommend visiting. And you can easily find free parking all around the shop."
