About the Business
Kawaihapai (Dillingham) Air Field (HDH) is a general aviation airport located at 69-415 Farrington Highway in Waialua, Hawaii, United States. Operated by the Hawaii Department of Transportation, the airfield is situated on 278 acres of the Dillingham Military Reservation and features a single 5,000-foot runway primarily used for commercial glider and skydiving operations. While the U.S. Army has priority for air-land operations and helicopter night-vision training, the airfield is not equipped for general aviation night operations. The Hawaii Department of Transportation is currently working with the U.S. Army to address long-term lease concerns for the facility. Public documents and information on the lease transition can be accessed on the HDOT website. Recent negotiations between the U.S. Army Garrison Hawai‘i and HDOT have made progress towards securing a new long-term lease for Kawaihapai Airfield, ensuring its continued operation for commercial activities. Other airports managed by HDOT in Hawaii include Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, and Hilo International Airport, among others.

"This parking area is used for Paradise Air Hawaii and the Kealia trail."
"The beach across the street from Dillingham Air Field is quite and not very crowded. It is a great place to find sea-glass. It has a steep sand beach that quickly turns to smooth rock. Good swimmers with snorkel gear find this beach great for seeing turtles. Small children should be watch closely due to the slippery rock just beyond the sand and the variance in wave sets."
"An awesome place to watch skydivers drop, swoop around, and land + gliders and tow planes even if you’re not going up yourself."
"Love love this place! We drove here a while back and took a glider up in the air with an instructor. It was amazing! The views are incredible each direction you look! The airport location is great for gliding, great winds and great views! If you are adventurous and like flying, this is a perfect spot to do it! The beach is near by as well, I love the fact that there are so many turtles in this area, because it is not too populated with people."
"This is sort of a secret spot. It doesn't get as many visitors as the more popular tourist attractions, but this is the place to go if you want some more adventure. Glider tours, skydiving, access to popular hiking trails and beautiful beaches right across the street."
