Toohey's Butchery & Bistro 824 Kokomo Road, Haiku-Pauwela, HI 96708

"We stopped by on a whim while in Haiku and holy cow were we blown away!!! The roast beef we got was more like bresaola or a nice prosciutto with its light, melt in your mouth texture. We originally intended to make sandwiches with it but instead put it on a charcuterie board which lasted all of 15 minutes. We also got jerky, which retained a nice steak-like quality with its thicker cut and tenderness. The cherry on top is that they’re a whole animal butcher! Apparently they will be reopening the restaurant and bar in the next couple of months, with live music. Can’t wait to see the final product!!"

"We were in Haiku and stopped at Toohey's to pick up some steaks. The 2 guys working the counter were so friendly. They had just prepared fresh cuts. The steak was delicious. We almost missed the shop. It's tucked away (if you are on a dirt road next to main road you are in the right place). Definitely worth a visit!"

"Toohey's is a MUST stop on your way to Hana! The tacos are delicious (best on island!). Burgers + fries are great too! I really appreciate Austin's integrity in sourcing organic, local ingredients! (Lettuce, tomatoes + tortillas all from Maui!) Most importantly, the meat is humanely raised and locally sourced from different farms across Maui + Big Island. It's great you can walk into the butcher shop, and see the meat being prepared + displayed. It's helping to change the relationship people have with the meat they are eating, which is great! The ambiance of the bistro + butcher shop take you back 50 years to old school New York. You walk in, and instantly feel like family! Toohey's is a gem, Mahalo Austin & Mike!!"

"Toohey’s is my favorite new spot on island! The food tastes incredible and the portions are generous. They have live music on Sunday nights and it’s BYOB! I highly recommend!"

"This is my favorite place to get a great tasting burger. I love that they only use high quality organic ingredients and that the beef is coming from Maui. This may be Maui's best homestyle burger (looking at you Ulupalakua Ranch) and reason enough to stop by. Besides the awesome burgers you can also visit the butcher shop connected to the bistro and pick up some Maui beef, pork from Malama Farm in Haiku, chicken from the Big Island, or my personal favorite venison which they get from local hunters on Molokai. The venison is from axis deer and is guaranteed to be the leanest, most delicious meat you will ever eat. On Fridays and Sundays local musicians play in the dining area starting at 6:00PM and it's a great time to stop by and enjoy some music, BYOB, and if you've got keiki the staff will give them sidewalk chalk to draw with so you can relax. The ambiance is beautiful, the meat delicious and the staff are super friendly so get yourself to Toohey's but be sure to leave me some venison!"
