Big Monster Thai Kapaa

"My family eats a fair amount of Thai. And we were very pleasantly impressed by Big Monster. We were in Kauai for a week of vacation and wound up there twice for dinner. The panang curry, in particular, was quite lovely. Very creamy and flavorful with a lot of chicken in it. My daughter had the pad Thai (her go to) and said it was rivaled only by our family favorite Thai restaurant in Las Vegas. The service was quite good. The atmosphere is just ok. It's pretty basic seating and the utensils are pretty flimsy for a sit down restaurant. But we went for the food and we weren't disappointed."

"It was our first time visiting Big Monster Kapaa location. We usually ordered Togo from the other one but today we dine in here. The service was phenomenal!! Friendly staffs with a big smile. I’ve tried their crispy shrimp pad Thai today and let me tell you. With a very limited ingredients they could find on the island they still made it as tasty as if you were to dine in Thailand. My daughter also love their crab Rangoon. We will definitely be back for sure"

"I really wanted to like this place. Friendly and clean restaurant. However, the food is NOT authentic Thai at all. It’s very Americanized. Ordered the drunken noodles. There was broccoli in the drunken noodles. Thai cuisine in general doesn’t use broccoli in any of their dishes. Instead of Thai basil in the dish, they used the holy basil, which is normally used for pad krapao, not drunken noodles so the flavors were off. There were also bamboo in the noodle dish which drunken noodles don’t normally have. I also ordered the Tom kah and sadly, it tasted like they just poured a can of coconut milk in a bowl and added bell peppers, sliced zucchini, broccoli and onions. Again, broccoli or zucchini does not belong in an authentic Tom kah soup. I couldn’t taste any of the herbs that traditionally is famous for the soup - kaffir lime leaves, galanga, and lemon grass. There were no mushrooms either. Just lots of uncooked broccoli, uncooked zucchini, uncooked bell peppers and uncooked onions. I had to ask for some chili peppers to help give the soup some flavor. We got their fried chicken and it was just basic. The guests next to us ordered pad thai and they also had broccoli in pad thai. So after my observation, I’ve realized the restaurant uses all the same vegetables in every dish. Broccoli does not belong in pad Thai either. Most of the folks that enjoys eating there either never had real Thai food before or are not familiar with authentic Thai food. Sweet staff but the very Americanized food is not for me."

"This place is amazing! We came here twice within three days because it was so good! We had the summer rolls, Pad Thai and Penang curry and everything tasted delicious. The service was outstanding, super friendly and very proactive. Highly recommend!"
