Reviews of Daniel's
"Waitress stole from us. We all expect an expensive evening out on Valentine's Day, but apparently that still wasn't enough for the server. After receiving our check, as we often do, we paid for the meal with our credit card, ZERO'd out the tip line and tipped in cash. A week later I noticed the charge on my card was WAY higher than It should have been. The server took it upon herself to enter in an EXTRA $55 tip. I contacted the manger who confirmed there was a zero on the tip line and promptly refunded my stolen money. However his explanation fell short of convincing me that this could have been anything other than an egregious, deliberate theft. I wish I would have been convinced otherwise."
"Delicious food, kind, and personable staff with warm ambiance. My husband and I came here on a whim and were presently surprised by how delicious the food was. They have a well thought menu and I could taste the love and care made with each dish. Thank you for a wonderful dinner!"
"We ate here for the first time last night and it was amazing from start to finish. Cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and dessert were perfect. Our server was also super fun which makes for a great experience."
"People travel from all over California and Nevada, past gorgeous mountain views and rolling cow farms to this village for an amazing meal and dining experience. Our reservation was for Thursday evening, 5:30 (reservations highly, highly recommended!) Had heard good things about the place and really didn't know what to expect going into it except that I heard it was "French." The drive from North Lake Tahoe took about 45-50 minutes and it was really spectacular. Driving in to the quaint town of Genoa, you see a sign saying it's one of the oldest towns in Nevada. When we got there for our table for two, I was so very pleasantly surprised and delighted by all the little details we experienced during our 2 hour meal adventure! We ordered 3 appetizers (one, the quail salad with bacon, mushrooms and this delicious mustard and something dressing to be several as a main dish) and we picked the halibut special which was served with the homemade ravioli de jour (butternut squash, spinach and asparagus for our second main dish. The other two appetizers were a seared scallop salad with leeks with some kind of yummy spicy citrus vinaigrette and these deliciously spicy crab cakes with a tomato based sauce and homemade pickles. Oh, but first we were served an amuse-bouch of duck with apple pate (my French spelling here is off the charts, lol) that was both sweet and savory. We were also served special homemade sourdough rolls with the perfect hint of poppyseed and, of course, homemade whipped butter. Everything was good and the serving size, what you would expect with fine dining... until we came to dessert. Up to this point, we had eaten everything. Except a small portion of the fish that we boxed up for later. So, we felt pretty confident when we decided on the 3 desserts: apple tart, almond cake with homemade almond ice cream, and (how can you not at a French restaurant?) creme brule. Plus, two oat milk cappuccinos. The dessert portions were, can I say this, American sized! Lol. We had to box up a surprisingly large amount of that giant creme brule. The almond cake, by far, was my most favorite and accompanied by a cannal of the most delicious rum infused whipped cream!! The best was taking those super fresh raspberries and dipping them into the rum cream. That itself could be it's own dessert! The apple tart... well... it was actually puff pastry, so usually not what I would call a true tart shell, which I'm more used to a butter crumb base rather than a puff pastry base. But honestly, I'm not a fan of puff pastry at all, I fully acknowledge my personal bias, and had I known it was made that way, would have skipped it. It also had more of a pie filling than what I was imagining: a tart tasting (no pun intended) thinly sliced apple with a hint of sweet. The last thing, I must mention is the wall paper. I snapped a picture of the ladies room. I found it to be whimsical and a cross between (as my husband said) country and modern. Also, I have to mention... when I asked one of the waitstaff for an extra roll, the response I received was "let me ask the chef". The beautiful hostess later explained to us the story of this historic site, and the legacy of the chef (French trained born in Belgium) curating these meals and designing the dining experience impeccable. People travel from all over to this tiny village for an amazing meal and experience. Everyone we met was very attentive and friendly and even the other diners at times would interact about how good their plates were as we couldn't help but watch as plate after plate of food was delivered. Everything looked delicious! We definitely plan to make the trip again next year! Oh... and we did get that extra roll... but we were giggling at the thought that we might not be allowed to have it... it was all part of the charm of the evening. The 45 minute drive home at 7:30 pm was sunset over Lake Tahoe and snow capped mountains the whole way back. What a lovely evening! Updated July 2023! We came back again for another wonderful dinner! Here are a few more delicious pictures!"
"Daniels was too snooty for my blood. My husband and I are very heavily tattooed and when we walked in we were looked at like derelicts. It was an instantly uncomfortable feeling. The restaurant was beautiful and inviting but the staff made it feel otherwise. The hostess was very cold towards us. We did sit at the bar until our reservation, I do have to say our cocktails were delicious. The dining room ambience was nice and cozy. There was only 1 other table that was being dined at. We wanted to start with an appetizer, but for some odd reason you have to order everything all at once. We ordered a warm goat cheese salad and a quail salad. I absolutely love goat cheese, but I thought the goat cheese salad lacked flavor. My husband enjoyed his quail salad. I ordered the filet, and he ordered the Chilean sea bass. The waitress mentioned the sea bass being very smokey, and oh my she was not kidding. It was extremely overpowering, even the vegetables were smokey as well. I ordered my filet medium. Sadly it was overcooked. I mentioned it to the waiter and said it was just the lighting, he brought it back to the chef and he also claimed it was the lighting. I thought that was extremely odd, I know what a medium filet looks like. Definitely an awkward moment. We skipped dessert since we didn’t enjoy the dining experience and were ready to get out of there. Overall just a strange vibe in the restaurant, cold and uptight. We love fine dining but we will leave this restaurant to the geriatrics."
