"I visited Dr. Dean a couple months ago for a checkup and tooth cleaning. It was my first time there. I was referred to him by a coworker, because I was in search of a new dentist. There are not enough great words that I can say about him, his staff and my overall experience. He really made me feel at ease, knowing that this was my first time at his practice. "I went to this dentist whom I've frequented for a few years after swallowing a crown that came loose. I was told I had three options: 1. Have another crown put on, but it would continue to happen as there wasn't enough of the original tooth showing for the crown to get a firm grip. 2. Expose more of the existing tooth, but this may have a negative impact on the adjacent teeth. 3. Have the tooth extracted and have an implant put in which seemed to be the best option. Option three was going to cost $1169.60 out of pocket. After a prolonged hesitation at this I was offered the option of 2 payments. We continued to negotiate and settled on three payments of 389.87. It was a lot for me and I made this understood, but I was willing to pay it for the long term peace of mind. After the extraction and bone graft the area needed to heal for several months and on my last visit I paid my final installment. On my way out we were going to schedule my next appointment for the implant to take place when I was informed that the next "phase" of the treatment plan would cost $6300!! I was completely taken unawares at this. When the doctor heard what I was saying to the clerk he did not come to speak to me, but rather had another assistant tell me he'd take 40% off the price because I had been a patient for some time. 40% off of $6300 that were never disclosed while making my treatment plan??? I asked him what would make him think I would be ok with this when I clearly stated that the $1169 was already barely doable for me? After a back and forth that occurred over the phone over several weeks I said I'd be willing to pay double the original fee and pay another $1200 to get the procedure done since I now had a missing tooth and no other options, but I was politely rebuffed. How can a business not disclose clearly what the total end cost of a procedure will be? Leaving me with a gap in my teeth and a "pay or look funny" situation is a disgraceful way to do business."
