"Tonight I shopped at Cub Foods on Diffley. After I got to my car I realized that I had left a few things at the cashier stand. A young man who works there, Liam, was collecting shopping carts and I asked him if he could go back into the store to get what I forgot. He said yes, I could tell he was glad to do it. He returned in a minute with the items, I appreciated that. You can tell when people do things just out of obligation, but he was sincerely glad to help me. Also, thanks to George the cashier who had my items there for me. Also, thank you to the young man on the phone when I called tonight, Bradner. He was very friendly. I explained what happened at the store, I asked him the other two guys' names, and he was glad to help me. He even laughed at a lame joke that I said. He told me he would communicate to the other guys that I had called and thanked them. I understand why grocery stores are going to the self-service cashier model. Of course that saves labor costs. However, I think stores need to double down on thinking how they can make the shopping experience a personal thing, not just going into a store, buying your things, checking out your items by yourself, and leaving without talking with a single store employee. My guess is that a lot of customers could care less about communicating with store employees, but it does mean something to some, like myself. Modern American life can be impersonal, we need to better connect with each other. Thanks, Cub Foods, for the nice experience tonight due to these three fine young men. I can tell when employees are genuinely friendly and caring, as opposed to when people do things out of obligation."
