"Glacial Lakes State Park near Starbuck, MN. Of all the parks I've been to so far this was my least favorite. I didn't even do a hike since I could only find mowed trails that were easily accessible without a camping registration and horses were using them. Being a hiker, I wasn't interested in stepping in horse dung to see... well... a whole lot of what you see in these pictures. It's beautiful, don't get me wrong. Just not my idea of a good time. Non-horse trails all seemed to originate from the campgrounds where there was only parking for those with reservations. Irritating. This park is set up for horse riders, campers, and special group outings. In fact, an area of the park is off limits for people who aren't in one of the groups. Can't remember the name of the group but it was kind of irritating. There is a very long bike trail but that leaves the park and goes into Starbuck and beyond. On a scale of 1-10, I would give Glacial Lakes State Park a solid 3. Riders and campers might disagree. For me, the drive to get there was better than the destination. Even Belle Prairie Park in Little Falls, MN. is more engaging. At least from what I was able to see & find."
"Campground was a pretty nice experience. The restroom/showers could use a little TLC. Good hiking trails with some pretty views. Campsite was okay not much privacy between sites. Did have swimming areas that look like people were having fun at. They did have a small gift shop that was worth a look."
"Beautiful hidden gem. Loved the trails. Many are well worn, but not paved. The views are gorgeous. Paddle boards and canoes are available to rent. Life jackets available. Birding kits available during office hours."
"Nice mix of treeless hills, forests and prairie in this smaller park. Park has real nice trails for hiking and has a bike path from the town of Starbuck. Park has a good day use areas, a pretty lake as well as a small horse camp. This park is great for a single day visit. I don't think this park as a destination for fishing and swimming spot since there is so many better options in the area nearby. The campgrounds look extremely cramped and not private but the camper cabins look very nice."
"We enjoyed a day trip to the park in late May. The state hiking club trail is a great mix of prairie and wooded areas with great views. We saw heron, deer, loon, and other wildlife. After our hike, the kids cooled off at the small swimming beach. Although we did not take advantage, the park offers kayak rentals and fishing docks. The gift shop has a selection of stickers and t-shirts."
