"TL;dr of the review: There's a decent amount of prejudice within the credit union (much like all banks), but it's a member's union so I do expect better and I expect the CU to treat BIPOC equally. Lending is on the higher end, savings IR is very low, little fees that can be waived as a first time are not (other credit unions have a first time fee waive policy). The people are informative, and helpful. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Saving Account IR: It's laughable it's so low. It's truly not worth having money in your savings with this bank and it feels like a slap on the face when you know the interest rates on lending is typically higher than other lenders too. Yes, all unions and banks have typically terrible IR returns but not this low, and yes just open a high yield, but there's saving accounts where you float some money and then there's high yield account where those are typically emergency funds you hope you never have to touch, 2 separate things. (neutral stars, since if you're comparing the saving to a bank it's on par, but this is a credit union where the expectation should be higher.) Cancelling Checks - My partner's credit union the first cancelled check is free. Here it costs money (even when the check was lost by your landlord/stolen). It also costs a good chunk of money to cancel a check, even when you report it stolen. (neutral since it could be worse but it's something the union could look into when looking at other credit unions.) Mortgage Financing - This bank is very informed and super helpful to call and talk when about what options are out there (conventional vs FHA). The guy is one of the few lenders who actually knows 2 cents about FHA and it's rules about financing, which is extremely helpful since other lenders typically rely on underwriters and are incorrect about if a property is able to be approved, and will simply not finance as FHA because they don't want to go thru the extra step of making sure the property meets the standards. Even with a conventional loan the guy was super willing to look up different grants and options that one might be qualified for to reduce the IR on the loan. (+1 star for this) Fraud - I have had better experiences with this bank than my credit card. Years ago I had my card number swiped from a bad reader and the union was very quick to act. When a company I purchased from was going bankrupt and not issuing refunds for goods they did not ship out the union was also quick to act. It is a hassle to go thru this, but the people were extremely helpful. I provided them with emails, receipts, timestamps, to expedite the process and investigation. The people - overall they are usually nice, informative, and helpful. I have noticed a trend where they do treat members differently based on ethnicity. Yes, this is an issue with all banks, but I would expect better from a credit union that depends on membership. You can read about it in the comments, and I've witnessed my partner be treated with questioning whereas I am not questioned to the extent he is. It's been years and he was never issued a card other than the one that gets printed out the day you join. There's other moments that are hard to put into words where it truly feels like we are treated differently. -2 stars for the prejudice."
"I use 3 banks. After today, I will exclusive use only Share Point. My experience with Leandro today reminded me why I opened my account a number of years ago. He payed close attention to my needs and took care of everything in a comfortable professional manner, along with some direction. I have always had positive experiences at Share Point, thank you."
"Leandro Vargas was incredible in helping us resolve a financial issue that could have been an uncomfortable situation. Leandro oversaw the circumstance as a professional and made us feel comfortable. He made us feel as if we were a valuable customer of the Credit Union. He is someone that we can also go to discuss any needs that we might have. It is people like Leandro that makes SharePoint Credit Union the outstanding financial institution in the Twin Cities."
"I was looking to refinance my car loan and SharePoint had a great rate. I applied online, super easy, and Stephanie contacted me right away. The whole process was super smooth and Stephanie was great to work with - sharing all information each step of the way, I didn’t need to ask questions because the process was simple, easy, and transparent. If only all loans were this simple!"
