"If you intend to trade in anything involving cryptocurrency, they will adamantly refuse any form of transfer to an exchange. I understand why, given the history of exchanges like FTX, but I would like the option of assuming that risk, since it's my money. Now I'm stuck with money in an exchange, since they refuse to help."
"Terrible service. No one there knows what they are doing. I’ve banked with Highland my entire life and never had any issues until this Maple Grove location opened. Planning to move all my accounts elsewhere. The younger staff is snotty and can’t complete a simple deposit without issues."
"No one really knows anything. I get told this by one person and told something completely different by another. All communications are condescending. They reverse transactions without telling you and then charge you for it! They NEVER call back when they say they will. I never had any of these issues until the Maple Grove branch moved down the street. Not sure if it's new management or what but its been awful. Worst banking experience I have ever had."
"My experience with Highland Bank was flat out awful. I specifically reached out to them on Friday, April 3rd to ask if they would accept an application from a non-customer for the PPP SBA loan. They assured me that they would absolutely be able to process it. So I sent in my paperwork, followed up to make sure they received it -- they told me they received it and would let me know when there was an update. 4 days later I emailed them for an update and got an automated message informing me that they would only be processing applications from current customers. They had zero explanation and zero concern as to how that affected me. I would not be upset if they had just told me upfront (when I asked) that they were only going to process apps for current clients. At the rate that the funds for this program are disappearing, it is completely possible that the 4 days they wasted could end up meaning that my business gets shut out from this program. Poor form."
"We Switched to highland because we moved, they were close and claimed to offer many benefits over Wells Fargo. It has been 2 months of banking nightmares! First, if we need to spend over $1000 on our check card we need to call in for approval and it needs to come from the branch manager. They will not up our spend limit on our check card, they literally require us to call in every time. Their solution, write checks! I have no need for paper checks, nor do businesses even want them any more. Many of our bills are larger payments, so every month we spend an hour getting another 1 time approval, terrible. Second is their online banking. If you like nostalgia, then bank here, otherwise every other bank is better. Third, i used the atm at the bank today and it literally shut down mid- transaction! I went to the window and all I was offered is that they don't run the atm, some other company does. After that it was not their problem and offered no help, wouldn't even tell me if my money had been withdrawn from my account before the atm quit on me. Fourth, any deposit over $5,000 can take up to 2 weeks to clear. 2 Weeks! TCF = 2 days, Wells Fargo = 5 Max. 2 weeks is unacceptable. And finally, we recently deposited check on a Thursday and the teller, rather than put a hold on our deposit accidently put a $15,000 deduction on our account. Why? I have no idea. So when i check on my account on Saturday because my card is being declined it says I'm negative (why does this charge over $1000 work but not the ones i want?). I saw the $15,000 charge and called the bank but they are closed on the weekends. I made nearly 10 calls and nobody was available. I emailed the branch manager, my banker, another branch manner and someone else. Finally on Sunday a different branch manager responded and said they would fix the problem first thing Monday morning. Well, i finally had my money back on Wednesday, no apology or nothing. And that is why banking here is a terrible idea!"
