"Wonderful sensei and great tournament opportunities. Minnehaha gives the community access to a wide variety of instruction, experiences, seminars, etc. As a youth kenshi, my kendo has improved exponentially during my time here, and I feel that coming here gives me an outlet for culture, art, and discipline."
"I went here for 3 months and had quite a blast. I ended up stopping not because there was any problem with the place but more of for my own fault. When going here I practiced everyday for maybe a week or two, but then stopped. I could slightly keep up in class but if you don’t practice at home or don’t do any exercise like me, losing motivation to get up and go is bound to happen. The sensei’s teach very well and are easy to understand, you just have to put in the effort to listen to their advice and learn to the best of your ability. The sensei’s and the other students are great people and easy to interact with. The age’s can vary, I don’t know if there was any high school students like me but there were a few from lower grades, and a bit in their 20s and on, so don’t feel like you have an age gap because if you join there will be probably at least someone close to your age. And of course since you are learn ing the sword you do end up hitting people of course after learning basics. The armor in kendo I got around my 3rd month of being there, I didn’t have the helmet though so I can’t comment on that but some people got their helmet around that time too. Also something that is nice, if you need some water while you’re training there is a drinking fountain with pretty cold water which is nice. The prices are pretty affordable, easy location to get to, lots of parking space, and located on the bus line if you do that. I truly had a fun experience learning the sword. I did not quit because of problems with the teaching or anything it’s all just a few personal reason like school, studying and the pursuit of other new hobbies, also just not practicing kendo got me less interested. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! If any of my sensei’s read this or even the other students, thank you for teaching me, who knows I might join again."
