The Desert Farming Initiative at the University of Nevada, Reno is a cutting-edge agricultural program located at 920 Valley Road in Reno, Nevada. As Nevada's farming industry faces challenges with an aging population of farmers and a decline in small farms, the Desert Farming Initiative is working to support the next generation of farmers. Through partnerships with wineries, food pantries, and the Nevada Farm Apprenticeship Program, the initiative is dedicated to advancing climate smart farming and food systems.

Established in 2013, the Desert Farming Initiative operates a commercial fruit and vegetable farm and plant nursery that is certified organic. The program aims to train aspiring farmers to become successful farm owner/operators in Nevada, contributing to the long-term viability of the state's agricultural industry. The initiative also recognizes and honors the traditional lands of Indigenous Peoples, including the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, the Numu (Northern Paiute), Nuwu (Southern Paiute), and Newe (Western Shoshone) peoples.
