"I was apprehensive about going back to school for my diploma but I wanted to finish so that I could go to university and earn an actual college degree to better my future.I had most of my high school credits and had to take English 12 and algebra 1 to complete my diploma.Ms. mcfarlane was patient and kind and explained the math problems in a way that was easy to understand, math has always been my nemisis, and aside from basic equations I get lost on the harder problems. She is an excellent teacher and she gave me my first A grade in a math class that I've ever had, made me feel great. The school is a wonderful resource for people who never got their diplomas & want to finish,I failed the g.e.d.tests before at another school in the city because of the math portion, and was ready to give up when I found this place.Thank you desert rose for helping me achieve my dream of earning my diploma and being able to walk with my graduating class in may of 2018,it was everything I hoped it would be."
"Haven’t attended yet, just thought I’d read the reviews sooo ... 2 questions ,,, 1) what do ppl mean when they are saying “ they kicked me out because of medication”?? I keep seeing it in the reviews. And 2) how much $$ and how long is the CNA class at Desert Rose?"
"The teachers don’t help the students anymore. I Feel like the staff doesn’t really care about the students. I understand that some students just go to mess around but also theirs students that actually want to finish school. I signed up 3 weeks ago for English 12 online and the teacher still hasn’t given me access to start my work. I email her and she doesn’t respond, not to mention the new apex program is horrible!!!!!!"
"My personal experience with Desert Rose was excellent how they treat the adult student is amazing. I had a great experience with Ms. Perkins. Thank you Ms. Perkins for helping me although I didn't have a good enough English speaking skills, helped and motivated me to not give up and to keep on working. Now I'm almost getting my diploma and I started not knowing any English so Thank you very much Ms. Perkins and Desert Rose. -Maria Anzu"
"This place is WAAAY under appreciated for what they offer the community. They offer adults who had a difficult childhood or trouble getting through school a second chance and far too many people take advantage of it. The teachers here only care as much as the students. If the student shows that they really want to achieve something then the teachers will go out of their way for that student, but if a student acts like the school is a daycare and just goofs off while acting a fool then the teacher doesn't care about that student's future in life. Why should they if the student doesn't?! The time I spent here was short, but I appreciated EVERYTHING this place did for me. From Mrs. Oshinski my counselor (love that woman, God bless her!), the front office staff who deal with jerks over the phone ALL DAY, to the teachers who deal with wannabe, grown children who act like thugs who are only there because their parents make them attend: you all are doing something extremely special and admirable for the community and I can't thank you enough for providing me with the opportunity to obtain my diploma years after my father threw me to the streets before I could graduate. I refer you guys to people who really look for that second chance in life all the time, even if that don't accept the help I offer, sadly, but if I can help just one person with this school it makes all the effort worth it. Keep up the great work and know that you have helped people like me be able to reach for a brighter future when those who were supposed to did not."
