Reviews of Cruisers Academy
"I had a great experience on my week-long Women-Only sailing course with Captain Heather. I had already taken several ASA courses and wanted to solidify my knowledge and get more hands-on experience without my husband on board. Heather is a badass captain with a lot of experience. She was very patient with the new sailors and gave thorough instructions on everything from engine maintenance to sail handling, to safety in emergency scenarios. We learned how to use both navigation technology as well as paper charts. We got hands-on experience anchoring, even in the dark. Our trip in the Sea of Cortez was challenging because there was no wind that week, but we made the best of it and still worked with the sails some. We also did a little land exploring of the islands in the area and got to snorkel a wreck. Overall I would do it again and recommend it to other women. I gained a lot of confidence and Heather will be a great resource for me in the future. Plus, Lintika is a beautiful boat!"
"Did the passage from Loreto to Mazatlan with Captain Brady. It was an amazing learning experience. Lintika is a fantastic vessel that handled everything thrown at her and is great boat to learn on. Senor Brady is such a great teacher. He explains things but lets you actually do them. When learning from Cruisers Academy you walk away with practical hands on experience and confidence to take on the next challenge on your own. I have learned at many places but CA is by far the best and most complete experience I have ever had. If you get the opportunity to sail with them, do not pass it up! It is a true cruising experience, not just a sailing experience."
"Captain Heather and Cruisers Academy provided an excellent learning opportunity during the Women’s Cruisers Course out of Loreto Mexico in December. This is the perfect and comfortable environment for anyone that wants to hone their sailing knowledge and skills. Captain Heather is the epitome of a calm, encouraging, and expert instructor. Plus the location of Sea of Cortez is breathtaking. I highly recommend this course! Thanks again Captain Heather and the CA Team! Vr Karen Harris Reno, Nevada"
"Sailing around Isla Carmen BCS on Lintika with Senior Brady was an excellent experience! It’s a perfect boat to learn on and a great place to learn about near shore sailing. I would highly recommend and hope to return again."
"I'd give 10 stars if I could. I sailed with Cruisers in their Bay Area weekend program and couldn't have had a better time. I signed up with the expectation of getting some great knowledge from folks I knew had tons of real life experience sailing all over the world. I got that and so much more. Where many sailing courses are focused entirely on the information, Cruisers Academy provides a full sailing experience. When you're on board, you really feel like part of a crew, even if just for a short time. The food was great, knowledge was invaluable, sailing/views/experience were top notch, and Brady, Blue, and the other students were super fun to hang out with, which is saying a lot considering the close quarters on any boat. To say their course is well worth the money is a massive understatement. I've taken other courses since which were solid and informative, but it just felt like something was missing. Those other courses felt like a classroom, where sailing with Cruisers Academy felt like learning with friends while having a great time. Seriously. If you're reading reviews to decide whether you should do it, whether it's worth it or are questioning if you're going to have a good time, you can stop here and book it - you're going to be SO glad you did!!"
