About the Business
Centerpoint Trailhead is a park and tourist attraction located in Compton, Arkansas, United States. Established in 1972, it is part of the Buffalo National River, which flows freely for 135 miles and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Visitors can enjoy a journey from running rapids to quiet pools while surrounded by massive bluffs in the Ozark Mountains, eventually reaching the White River.
At Centerpoint Trailhead, visitors can learn about the various stretches of river available for paddling and how to prepare for a river trip. It is important to check river levels before embarking on a float trip, as conditions are monitored by six gauges along the Buffalo River.
The institution offers pavilions, group sites, and some individual campsites for reservation from March 15 to November 14. Visitors can also explore the historic Boxley Grist Mill and learn about the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse at Buffalo National River.
While entry to Buffalo National River is free, camping fees apply. It is important to recreate responsibly and follow guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. Plan your next trip to Centerpoint Trailhead and experience the natural beauty of the Buffalo National River.

"2.5 miles downhill to the trails leading to Goat’s Bluff (to the right) and Hemmed Hollows (to the left). I’m pretty surprised Goat’s Bluff is allowed. It’s worth the hike back up if you don’t just continue through to the ORT."
"We hiked the centerpoint trail to goat trail. It was a perfect January hike with temps in mid to upper 40's and plenty of sunshine. The goat trail has a few areas along the bluff that could be tough if you're not comfortable with heights. The goat trail turn-off is not marked but easy to follow if you previously viewed the map at the trailhead."
"Absolutely beautiful overlooks of the Buffalo River Valley. 3.8 miles in, downhill, 3.8 miles out, uphill (the return takes longer). WARNING ⚠️ There are active feril hogs and mountain lions hunting on this trail (directly on it). Be off the trail before sunset, especially in the winter!!!"
"A fine trailhead to access center point with the intention of hiking the goat bluff trail. Parking is mostly flat if you need to boondock, though I don't know if you're really supposed to. I have had success without issue though. The trail is easy, but not for the unfit. The way back will be entirely uphill. If you start in the early morning, depending on time of year, you can catch the whole valley in fog and it's beautiful."
"It's a moderately tough hike. The trail is rocky much of the way. The view along Goat Trail is totally worth it! We took the whole family, including a 10-year old who made it just fine. 3 miles downhill and 3 miles uphill."
