"You get what you pay for is a saying that definitely applies to this apartment complex. I lived in a two bedroom unit on the third floor. Upon check in I was told that my carpet would be replaced and the walls painted and blinds would be hung. None of these things were completed upon move in. holes in the wall, no blinds (and yet the complex required you had window treatments). I had secured a garage upon lease signing for an additional fee and planned to use it as a storage unit. Little did I know management had given that same garage to another tenant around the same time, I found all of my items in the garage were stolen or thrown in the trash, about $1k worth of items. Their fix was to give me a garage free for a year, which at that point was unnecessary since all the items I needed storing were gone. The light fixture above the sink was meant to be an outdoor fixture, it got extremely hot and could have been a fire hazard if I had left it on for any extended amount of time. First year there the ac did not work, they replaced it with another old ac which also did not work. I did receive a working ac by the second summer I lived there. They boast that they pay heat but the heat in the apartment was like the shower, either boiling or freezing there was no in between. We had ice building up on all windows every winter. When I called to get renters insurance through progressive, they quoted me a higher rate than average because a claim had been placed on that unit in the past for black mold. I did spot traces of black mold in my daughter's closet while cleaning everything for checkout. One summer I called multiple times to have management remove a wasp nest outside my bedroom window, they ignored my request for so long that the wasps eventually burrowed their way through my bedroom wall, leaving my bedroom infested with wasps. Then came the rodents later that fall. I killed at least 9 mice in my unit and had to provide traps for my new neighbor at the time who just moved in. I started house hunting after that, I couldn’t take it anymore. When I finally moved out I cleaned that apartment so well I found items from the previous tenant. During the walkthrough I was told I would be charged 120 for carpet cleaning and 35 dollars for small repairs, on a document both the manager and I signed. According to Minnesota state statutes on rental deposit return that check was supposed to reach me within 21 days. It’s been over a month and accounting refuses to cut a new check for me to pick up because stopping payment would cost them 25 dollars. I have been told that I need to wait another week before they will consider it. The new manager has tried to be helpful but I know she can only do so much, her hands are tied at some point. The maintenance crew there were decent, they would do what they could but I knew their hands were full. there is no excuse, however, for the owner. He should be ashamed of himself. In the end, 2/10 is my recommendation. Manager and maintenance guys are decent, the pool when it’s open is a nice bonus, the rest of it isn’t worth a darned thing."
