"My good friend lives here"
"Charming does not begin to describe these apartments. They are truly a hidden gem of downtown. They are located inside a secure gate, that believe me is really close to impossible to climb (learned this after I locked myself out with no phone and no way back in until a kind neighbor came to my rescue.) The historical property was renovated with just the right modern conveniences (hello central heat, air, stacked washer and dryer and a dishwasher!) while still staying true to its charm. It has high ceilings, hard wood floors, a HUGE original cast iron tub and shower that provides some amazing soaks, and a beautiful fireplace/mantel that highlights the living room. All these features are amazing, however all fail in comparison to the gorgeous grand windows that are in each of the bedrooms, dining room and living room. During the day, you never need an overhead light. The natural light is unlike anything you have ever seen in an apartment. AND they are 1100 sq feet apartments. Sometimes, I felt like I was in a house rather than an apartment. There are three buildings that hold four apartments each; it is a small complex and quiet. Despite it being a relatively old building, the noise level from neighbors was minimal. With the exception of the stairwell when someone would come and go, you could almost pretend you do not have neighbors. The location places it close enough to enjoy the downtown festivities without being smack in the middle of the hassle of road closures for parades. You are next to a busy intersection but the biggest inconvenience there is the noise, which is equivocal to any other residence in Texarkana. I cannot say many negative things about these apartments, sometimes it is a little inconvenient to have to walk down each time you have a visitor or remember your keys each time you take out the trash; yet the peace of mind knowing no one can just walk up to my door is something that makes the nuisance trivial. There is a parking lot in the back of the complex but I chose to park on the street next to the building and never had any issues with someone messing with my car, though sometimes it was difficult to park as it is not big enough for all the people that reside there. However, there is more parking just across the street that is just a couple more feet. Finally, there are two stairwells for the upstairs apartments in each building and the one that gets used the most by everyone is a little tricky to navigate the first few times you use it. It kind of spirals down and is sort of small but it is easy once you have been using them a couple weeks. The building is amazing, the apartments are beautiful and yet the best gem of the whole place is the owner/landlord, Trent Hanna. It is rare in this town to find a landlord of substance and integrity, Trent is full of both. He was so easy to work with. He handled maintenance issues quickly and efficiently. My longest wait was no more than 72 hours and it was a minor issue at that. Considering he has a full time job, he was available to us 24 hours a day. He is very friendly and really cares about the buildings he owns and cares for. He could have just built a few homes and rented them out but he chose to pour into some abandoned pieces of Texarkana history and return them to their glory, something this town needs more of. When he first showed me the place, I could see the regard he has for the history and preservation of the building. TL:DR If you are looking for a unique, spacious, affordable, and pure awesome place to live, RENT HERE. Call and get on his waiting list, there is a very good reason these apartments are rarely for rent. Once you move in, you will fall in love and never want to leave."
