"21OCT2023 UPDATE: a representative from Avera called me to let me know after a review of my case, they corrected the issue and apologized. I was impressed at how quickly and professionally it was handled. Thank you Avera. I want to preface that this review has nothing to do with the care provided, which was wonderful. My review has to do with billing. All three of my children received Covid tests and I provided my insurance information to the clinic for billing. Many months later I received a bill from Avera saying I owed them money for two of those tests because those two children weren’t covered. As a matter of fact, they’re covered under TRICARE and have been since they were born. I filled out the insurance billing paperwork at the front desk with one of the ladies working at the time. When I called the Avera billing number to resolve this, the lady on the phone went from saying that I never provided insurance information to the information was provided but not in a timely manner. I told her it’s not my fault that the clinic staff can’t do their job and file paperwork on time or correctly. She said she’d look into it but I never heard anything back until I received a letter from a collections agency. So instead of admitting their mistake and taking it on the chin, they sell their debt to a collection agency. If I were in charge of the clinic, I’d be reviewing the work my front desk receptionists are doing when collecting and processing insurance for billing because I’m sure I’m not the only person this has happened to. Again, the medical staff were professional and did a great job."
