Tropical Encounters is a vibrant zoo located at 1225 Estabrook Drive in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. Our institution offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages to explore and learn about a variety of animals and plants.
One of our popular programs, Little Explorers, is held on Thursdays from 10:00AM-noon in the Visitor Center during the Winter and on the zoo grounds in the Summer, perfect for children aged 1-3. Guests can also meet the Zookeepers and learn about the day-to-day operations of running Como Zoo, as well as the animals that call it home.
Don't miss Sparky the sea lion's new show in Como Harbor, featuring all 7 animals that reside there. Visitors can also meet the Gardeners and learn about the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory.
Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is free and open year-round, with a mission to inspire the public to value the presence of living things in our lives. Our expert staff is dedicated to conservation and the wellbeing of the plants and animals in our care.
Join us for special events like the Spring Flower Show, the arrival of a baby Dall sheep, and career exploration opportunities. "Like walking straight into a jungle, the Tropical Encounters experience at the Como Zoo is the perfect escape from cold Minnesota days, or to simply feel like you are in a completely different part of the world for a while. I could sit here for hours enjoying the sounds of nature and watching the turtles and fish. Occasionally you can see Chloe the sloth relaxing on a tree in this room, and there are also small exhibits for a few exotic frogs, tarantulas, and a few other reptiles as you walk through the area."
