"Lots of amazing things but owner seems to want to hang on to it all by the looks of prices. Seems more interested in collecting than selling."
"First, let me say that my heart goes out to Howard as he clearly has dementia. I have spent hours visiting with him in the past and he has quite the collection of antiques arranged in an unsafe “store”. As everyone else has commented, the vast majority of items are not priced. When you do find something that you want, it is AT LEAST double what it should be. He clearly does NOT want to sell any of his personal collection. The “store” serves as an overly packed storage building. I visited his store several years ago and was told he would take $400 for a sign that he just now said he would take $2,000 for. He says a man from England is going to come get it some day and he will hold it for him. As his apparent dementia is progressing, he seems more and more rude at the drop of a hat. My cell phone rang at one point and I had to send a text message. He quickly told me no cell phones are allowed?!?! Please heed my warning and do NOT visit this storage building that is called a store. You will be sorry…"
"Recently bought firewood from Mr Hogan. It’s by far the most expensive wood I’ve purchased and by far the best. I think some posts are confused by his pricing method. His basic price is for 1/2 a Rick (4’x4’), which is also a 1/4 Cord, of 16”-18” length logs. I bought a Rick (4’x8’) of 22”-24” seasoned oak. He also has 16”-18” and 20”-22” lengths and they are all priced differently. He certainly talks a lot but he helped me load the wood. It took two pickup loads to transport the Rick. Again, very expensive but well worth it."
"Several years ago we were traveling to OK and stopped for the night at Maumelle. Being an owner of an antique shop, I am interested in treasure hunting so to speak. I ventured over to Howard’s Antiques, and what an adventure it was. There were so many treasures from tiny to large, every where I looked there was something that caught my eye.The owner Howard was a treasure all to himself. At first he came off as a little grumpy and grouchy, after engaging in conversations with him about his fabulous finds, we quickly became fast friends. He was so eager to tell me all the details of all of his adventures. As we talked his blue eyes brightened up and the frown became a smile and laughter could be heard as we made our way through the maze of antiques and collectibles. Two plus hours into our adventure I had gathered a few items I hoped to purchase.I shared with Howard my love for antiques and collectibles and that I too had a shop not quite the size of his. He stated he had been in the business for 30 years. I bought several much loved treasures and to this day I still have them and I fondly remember Howard. One has to be a lover of “collecting” to understand the true concept. The next time I go that way again I will stop and have another adventure with Howard."
"I recently visited Hogan’s antiques store and goodness what a rude awakening. I was told if I didn’t like the prices to hit the door. Howard had nothing priced, nor do I even believe anything is for sale. Every time I ask about a price I got the run around, and he was very loud and rude. His prices are beyond ridiculous, and he told me if I didn’t like it, he would keep it. I am pretty experienced in the areas of items I was interested in. However Howard’s prices far exceeded retail value by over $300. I was also told that I could not enter his store with a cell phone, nor could I touch anything. Needless to same there is no negotiating prices with Mr Howard. He is very shrewd and unpleasantly loud. I will say it was the worse experience I have had in any antique store, and I would highly recommend anyone to take their business elsewhere. If your looking for a fair deal and a fair price, you don’t need to look at his store. It’s obvious that Mr Howard is totally clueless when it comes to the value of antiques. He sets his price, you pay it or leave, zero negotiating and he will reject any offer. His prices are extreme."
