"When I attended Southwest State last year my emails never received responses. I had questions about which classes to take, scholarships, clinical training, etc. all of which were ignored. I called and left voice messages to which nobody responded back. I eventually transferred elsewhere."
"I received an excellent education here. The class sizes are small, and I had significant interactions with all of my professors. The school has a little bit of everything in terms of amenities such as a cafeteria, sub & pizza restaurant, Starbucks, bookstore, auditorium, student lounge, extensive library (made studying easy), well-established gym, and an excellent football field. Finding a parking space here was never a problem. Their veteran's department is helpful in getting you set up with your VA benefits."
"Graduated in 1994. Set me on a path to success. Still support the place."
"My grandson attended 1 semester in 2017. The staff appeared to be helpful during the enrollment process. They had him in classes that he shouldn't have had to begin with.... he didnt have a choice to get generals out of the way. They wanted you to take classes that you would have to continue with there so you could never transfer anywhere else. When you set up an account online, if there was a problem getting access, they never assisted you. We ended up with a big bill because staff were never available or returned calls. When my grandson called to speak to them, their lines wouldnt even ring! I personally was present when this happened! He tried to call to tell them he wasn't returning for 2nd semester. Then he received a $980. Bill in July because he never notified them. When I called in May to verify all Bill's were totaled, they assured me it was correct. Then we got that letter in July! So by the time they turned the bill over to Mn Dept of Revenue for collections, they added another $2500. To collect. So the total was over $12,200. For 1 semester! Like I said, the staff appears to be helpful, but when theres a problem, they just arent available to help. Seemed a bit of a scam to me. I personally would steer clear from this institution. It's in a small rural community with very limited employment opportunities for a student to have a part time job. Sorry SMSU for the not so good review, but I feel future students need to hear the truth."
"Many years ago, I participated in my last national wheelchair paralympics held here at the Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. A nice campus. We stayed in the dorms, which were okay. Their track and swim center were very nice."
