"We took three boys aged 7-10 and we all had a nice time at the Spring Festival. There was a much bigger variety of animals than I had expected to see. There were plenty of volunteers at various 'stations' demonstrating various aspects of the farm and answering questions. We met Mr. Lee, the farmer, at the chicken coop who 'hired' our boys to shlep 200 pounds of chicken feed, pail by pail, in exchange for a few fresh eggs. The boys happily worked. He was so pleasant and seemed like a master educator. (I'm gonna try offering a few eggs in exchange for chores at home but somehow I doubt it'll go as well for me.) We went on a hay ride, went inside a real farm house that had been fixed up nicely, saw a woman churning butter, saw a blacksmith doing something with a fire. The boys took cobs of corn and put them into a machine, then cranked it, which separated the kernels from the cob. There was a fake cow that the kids practiced milking. The udders were realistic and actually squirted water. The boys also cranked a machine which took twine and braided it into rope. It was so simple but kind of genius. The barn was really large with a super high ceiling. I hope we remember to go back and see the fields packed with all the crops which they are starting to plant now. After the long Minnesota winter, it was delightful to be outdoors and see all the greenery and enjoy a warm day."
"Eagan has done some good events here, but it can be hit or miss. Sometimes the descriptions make you think it's something different than what it is. Also there are events where you have to get tickets and the site doesn't actually link you to them. In general the farm house is nice to tour and area is nice with a playground nearby for kids."
"We've attended the Holz Farm Spring two years in a row and have attended other events over the years. Wonderful preserved piece of history and a gem of Eagan!"
"I have never been to an event at Holz Farm, but we enjoy coming to walk around and it's also one of the best places to take photos! It's a small but beautiful layout with lots of flowers in the spring/summer and cute holiday decorations in the winter."
"We go for the fall fest almost every year. The kids love it! Hayrides, animals to pet, rope making, milk a fake cow, tour an old farmhouse and have fresh made bread and butter, pick out a pumpkin, have a hot dog meal all with the background music of a live band. It's a fun, low-key day."
