Reviews of AmericInn by Wyndham Grand Forks
"The hotel desperately needs an update and I'm not talking decor. There's a permanent smell that you can't pinpoint. The tubs are cracked, showerheads broken, mold in weird places, heaters/ac dont work, and carpet is disease city. I spilled on the floor and the towel I used to dry it came up BLACK. The linen is dated and old. 2 queen bed rooms have exactly 2 towels. If you ask for extra towels you are getting exactly *1* towel because you are a bad person to demand something so difficult. You're an inconvenience if you inform front desk that your room is dirty. That's simply not their problem. The staff are NOT there to help you. There is zero professionalism, especially in management. If the staff is nice it's because you're a frequent guest. The bar food is frozen and takes half an hr to make and thats IF the staff are up to serving you. The breakfast sausage was clearly reheated from 2 mornings ago as it was hard enough to chisel diamonds. Also learned that if any employee that quits the owner slashes their last paycheck in half as retaliation. Illegal af?"
"Will not return to Americinn as I experienced multiple problems with my room. I asked for a wake-up call and no wake-up call was given. This has never happened to me in my life at any hotel I've ever stayed at. I'm retired, Since the alarm by my bedside had no light behind its digits I could not read it and therefore know that I was already late for the event I came to Grand Forks, ND to attend. There was a plate of moldy food in the frig. Very gross! The light on the desk did not work. When I first entered the room at night I used the bathroom to light my way as I could not get entry light to work. No bath towels were provided. When I checked out I told the front desk about no bath towels as I did not want to be billed for stealing them. I did shower and use hand towels so that was OK. The pass key did not work when I checked in, but the front desk did reset the codes and I was able to get in the room with only one extra trip to the front desk. The breakfast was fine. When I told the desk clerk about no bath towels and the other issues she told me they would make an adjustment to my bill which was $125 per night senior citizen, AAA rate for a single room. Upon returning home I phoned this Grand Forks, ND hotel to talk to the manager directly on three different days in order to find out what the adjustment would be. I was told she works mornings, but was not available every day. I was never able to talk to her as she was not available and I was tired of trying to contact her. The desk clerk said I would get a $20 credit to my bill, which I thought was a small credit for multiple issues. I was traveling with my daughter, her husband, and my 12 year old grandson who all stayed in another room. We were in town to attend a competitive event for my grandson. Two times, that is, when making their initial reservation by phone, and also when my family checked in the night before their stay, my daughter clarified that it was OK to pay for their room with cash. She was told, yes, yes, that would be OK. When she checked out she was told that cash payment was not OK and that she had to pay by credit or debit card. Her reservation was made by credit card, but she uses and had with her only a US Bank debit card. US Bank closed in the town we live in so keeping deposits current for that debit card is complicated as my daughter needs to travel to a larger town to deposit funds in her debit card account. She does not want to overdraw her debit card. The desk clerk said they would not accept cash because Americinn would have no recourse if their guests trashed the room. Why would they do this? This is nuts. They can look at my family and see they do not fit the profile of guests who typically trash hotel rooms. Middle aged couple with 12 year old. Duh?...Reservation was made with valid credit card. If they did trash the room the hotel has their license plate number and the credit card used to make the reservation. At check-out the clerk was polite to me, but argumentative about accepting cash payment from my daughter with her. My daughter had no idea Americinn no longer accepts cash payments. Why wouldn't the clerk take into consideration the fact that my daughter did not know this policy and make an exception for this one time? My daughter and her family have a long history of staying with the Americinn chain. My grandson loves this hotel chain and used to look forward to eating "beautiful Cheerios" (Fruit Loops) for breakfast when he was little. They used to use the hotel's promotion of a free night's stay after so many previous paid night's stay and were regular patrons. All this was pre-COVID. I do not have a history of being such a regular patron with this hotel because I did not travel for work before retiring. My family did travel regularly together for work and leisure. All of this was a very disappointing experience."
"Nice hotel but they don’t enforce no kids in pool after 10. So I would not recommend hotel to older folks who would like to relax in the pool. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good."
"My girlfriend and I did a girls getaway and picked this place as it had a bar and good price. The room was nice and clean, the breakfast was good and hot. The beds in our room though I have to say were not nice, very hard and uncomfortable if you are a side sleeper. We both woke up with hip pain both days. Heidi the front desk lady was very nice, her side kick Tashina the bar lady were both very nice and fun to spend our evenings with in the bar. These two went out of there way to make us feel welcome, and did little things for us. I would go back in a heart beat to this hotel if the beds were better and did not wake up in pain. If you like a hard bed then I would recommend this place or just a quick stay. Big shout out to Tashina and Heidi for making our stay great :)"
"Breakfast slapped, location great, near all the shopping and restaurants. Unimpressed with the dated room, the dirty carpet & the maggot I found on the top of my bed. Tv didn’t work. I would have complained to the front desk but they seemed too busy learning how to operate a hotel to have even been concerned. Paid $300 CAD for a Friday night to sleep with a worm and stare at a wall."
