About Us

Located in the heart of downtown Fargo, North Dakota, the Island Park Gazebo is a historic and picturesque park that offers a wide range of recreational activities for visitors to enjoy. As Fargo's oldest park, Island Park boasts amenities such as basketball and tennis courts, handball, grills and picnic tables, a playground, cross country ski trails, recreational trails, rentals, and a swimming pool.
One of the highlights of Island Park is the statue of Henrik Wergeland, Norway's national poet and a symbol of independence. Unveiled in 1908, the statue stands as a tribute to Wergeland's contributions to his country's freedom and reform efforts. The park is also home to a beautiful gazebo that can be rented for events such as weddings, accommodating up to 30 people with nearby amenities.
The Fargo Park District, in collaboration with AGL Landscape Architects and RDG Planning and Design, has developed a master plan for Island Park to guide future improvements and preserve existing features for the next 20 years. The park district's commitment to enhancing community life through parks and programs is evident in their dedication to providing a welcoming and engaging environment for all visitors.
Whether you're looking to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park, explore the diverse tree species on the Island Park Tree Tour, or hit the cross country ski and snowshoe trails in the winter months, Island Park offers something for everyone. With a focus on intentional leadership, passion, sincerity, and innovative solutions, the Fargo Park District is dedicated to making lives better and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
