About the Roger Maris Museum
The Roger Maris Museum, located at 3902 13th Avenue South in Fargo, North Dakota, is a tribute to the legendary baseball player who broke Babe Ruth's single-season home run record in 1961. Despite Maris's initial reluctance to have a museum in his honor, the museum was opened in 1984 in his hometown of Fargo, as per his request to make it visible, accessible, and free to the public.
The museum, situated in the Roger Maris Wing near the Aquarium Court at West Acres Shopping Center, showcases memorabilia and artifacts from Maris's remarkable career. Visitors can learn about his achievements and his impact on the game of baseball. The museum was originally created by Bob Smith, Jim McLaughlin, and American Legion Post No. 2, and was fully renovated in 2003 by West Acres.
Throughout the museum, quotes from Maris's friends and fellow players provide insight into his character and talent. From Mickey Mantle to Hank Aaron, many baseball greats have praised Maris's skills and humility. The museum also includes information about Maris's high school and minor league career, highlighting his journey to becoming a Major League Baseball star.
In addition to the museum, visitors can also visit Roger Maris's grave at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Fargo. Maris received numerous awards and honors during his career, including induction into the Baseball City Hall of Fame and recognition at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
The Roger Maris Museum is a must-visit for baseball fans and history enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into the life and legacy of one of the sport's most iconic figures.

Reviews of Roger Maris Museum
"There are so many interesting items to see and help visitors learn about Roger's life and career that I've stopped here three times while on different trips to/through Fargo. A nice video about Roger's career plays in the small theater, and an impressive collection of his awards and memorabilia is there for all to enjoy--for free. It's definitely worth a visit when you're in the area!"
"This is a perfect little museum that includes a great selection of memorabilia and a short video that you can watch from the "stands" in a small room that opens off the mall corridor. I was surprised to find the museum wasn't in a separate space, but rather along one wall in the mall. But unlike another reviewer, I loved this because the layout makes the material more accessible."
"Accessible whenever the mall is open and it's completely free. Who doesn't know the story of Roger Maris, who broke Babe Ruth's home run record in 1961? This museum is on one of the hallways in the West Acres Mall and includes a small seating area (with baseball stadium seats from Yankee Stadium) and a looped video. Maris a native of Hibbing Minnesota, was all class and only agreed to have this museum available if there was no charge as he did not feel it was right to capitalize on his success. So this was built in 1984 and remodeled in 2003. Viewing the memorabilia and watching the films is perhaps a half hour. Worth checking it out for any baseball fan."
"If visiting/passing by Fargo, ND head to West Acres Mall, the small Museum is there. It's free and its a chronicle of Roger Maris historic 61 home runs in 1961. A must visit for a baseball, yankee fan."
"As a travel enthusiast and history buff, this place truly exceeded my expectations. The museum is a delightful tribute to the legendary baseball player, Roger Maris. The moment I stepped inside, I was immediately immersed in his fascinating journey to greatness. The collection of artifacts, memorabilia, and photographs was beautifully curated, offering a profound insight into his life and achievements. For any sports lover, this place is an absolute must-visit! If you're visiting North Dakota or passing through the area, I highly recommend adding the Roget Maris Museum to your itinerary. It's an experience that seamlessly blends sports history and local heritage."
