Reviews of Dermatology Specialists
"NEVER visit Dermotology Specialists. To freeze one wart, it costs $1000 after insurance. Dr. Chermak came in for 10 min, froze it and left. Thousands of dollars for that. On my second appointment, I had questions on my acne. She told me to try benzoyl peroxide. When I said I’ve tried it and it did not work for me, she just responded with “well, try it again.” Prescribed it and left even though I had more questions. This clinic rips people off and doesn’t help. My wart didn’t even fully go away. Thousands of dollars for that. What a rip-off and disservice to their clients. Even if your insurance fully covers this place, it’s not worth waiting months for an appointment only to be rushed through an appointment and not get your questions answered."
"Very disappointed with this clinic. They sent the incorrect location in our confirmation email. When showing up to that clinic they said we needed to leave and go to a different clinic further away. There was another person there this happened to as well. The receptionist said we would for sure be seen immediately. Upon moving to the Edina clinic, we proceeded to wait another 40 minutes. Understand appts run behind but it seems they could use some training to make sure everything is accurate and efficient. On the other hand, Dr. Hook and her nurse were great!"
"I don’t usually leave reviews for this kind of thing but I’m still thinking about my experience almost 2 weeks later. I saw Dr. Hoffman and had the same experience others have mentioned. When asked the reason for my visit, I said my primary care doctor suggested it as a preventive measure given I’m nearly 30 and have quite a few moles. But she seemed genuinely confused and the rest of the appointment felt dismissive. I must have spent less than 5 minutes with her (after waiting 6+ months for an appointment) and rather than a full-body scan it was at best, a full body glance. Or rather, a partial body glance because things like my face, my scalp, my back, seemed to be completely missed. As a new patient, I frankly felt embarrassed to even be there, like I was wasting her time. I didn’t learn anything about my skin, anything I could be doing for it or should be watching for, and the cherry on top? When she finished looking me over, she asked if I had any concerns and I, knowing nothing about dermatology because it’s my first appointment, made a comment about a mole on my arm seeming to very gradually have grown in size and darkened over the last couple years. Took maybe a couple seconds to look at it and said “sure, we can biopsy that” and that was that. I was so confused, did we even need to biopsy it? It felt like it was only because I brought it up and not because she saw it doing her “scan” and felt it was concerning. Next, I’m not told what a biopsy entails or what to expect, so the next day when I removed the bandaid I was shocked by the open wound not realizing that a small chunk of my arm would be removed to remove the mole. I get it now and why it was necessary, but none of that was explained to me at the time so I had a lot of anxiety even looking at it for the first time afterwards. Lastly, while I was there (for again, 10-15 min tops, biopsy included) I was told by Dr. Hoffman to come back in 3-5 years or if I noticed changes to anything. I was called a week later and given the results of the biopsy which was thankfully benign, and I was told to come back every 6 months for another skin check. I brought up that the Dr. had said 3-5 years and was told no, with the biopsy having been done, it’s 6 months. Which is it then? I haven’t even gotten the bill yet, but I can’t wait to see what it looks like. Not to be dramatic, but this experience was pretty devastating for someone who’s passionate about preventative health and patient advocacy. Very lastly, I want to add that my nurse was very kind and caring, despite the whole experience feeling incredibly rushed."
"If you are a person of color, please do not come to this place! I had Dr.Reid and I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life! She didn’t care for me as a patient of 1 year. My experience with her was something I don’t wish upon anyone. I tried to report her, and the Executive Director let me know that she can’t don anything because she’s the owner? Please don't waste your time for a 5 minute appointment."
"HORRIBLE experience. 2 month wait for appointment. Did my paperwork in advance, arrived 5 min early. Sat in lobby 30 min after appointment time. Name was called and I moved into a new room for another 20 minutes. Finally Dr Chermak arrived and was in the room with me for no longer than 5 minutes total. She refused my prescription request and instead wrote me a different one. She referred me to a different doctor for my other reason for visiting because it’s something she can’t help me with. Total cost for this visit was $225 new patient + $297 for services. Can you believe that? I will never go back and would most definitely not recommend."
