"It’s been a decade since I took a course at this school and I was so traumatized by how I was treated that I’ve never forgotten- and I wanted to add a review here to let other women know they aren’t alone. In Spring of 2013 I took a class to be able to sit for my exam, having already been working for Blue Cross for several years. I don’t remember the instructors name, but I will never ever forget the way he belittled me. We were discussing HRA accounts, and I said that not all HRA’s allowed the policy holder to determine where the funds went, and provided examples of plans that we offered at BCBS to support this. The Instructor was so angry at me that he yelled at me in front of the class, and pulled me aside after class, got right up in my face with his finger and said “I OUGHTA KICK YOU OUT OF HERE RIGHT NIW FOR HAVING THE AUDACITY TO QUESTION ME IN FRONT IF THIS CLASS- you need to watch your smart little mouth and learn to respect who’s in charge.” I went home and cried for hours, afraid to come back to class. It was the day before the last day of class. I did return the next day and received my certificate of completion. I wish I would have filed a complaint with the Insurance Board, but I was young and afraid. I’m writing this here because this institution and their instructors are misogynistic and don’t foster an learning environment of collaboration and empathy. More importantly, they have a culture of disrespect and contempt. I hope if you are looking to get your insurance license, you look elsewhere. Don’t support this business. I moved to another state that summer and I did get my insurance license, by the way. I scored an 89 on my first try. There was no question about an HRA. I don’t remember a single thing I learned in that class, but I do remember how the instructor made me feel. If anyone else- especially any women- has experienced this abuse at this instruction, you are not alone."
