Reviews
"Food was good...but based on the reviews I read, I thought it was going to be spectacular. Chips & salsa: chips were extremely salty, salsa was very tasty...tons of flavor! Birria burrito: it was okay, but I've had better....maybe they skimped on the spices? Idk. I was definitely hungry enough to eat the whole thing, but only ate half because it wasn't the best. Brought it home to my teenage son...he ate it, but he literally will eat anything. Kids rice & beans: good but not great. Horchata & lime/chia beverages were delicious! Definitely the best part of our dining experience...& I would come back just for the drinks! We really wanted to have tamales...but we're informed they only have them 1 or 2 times per week. Super bummed. I will give them another shot...prob try three assorted tacos next time. I gave 4 stars (instead of 3) because they were really nice & welcoming and the restaurant was very clean."
"I’ve eaten here now three times. The first time was a breakfast burrito(made fresh and better than any in Sioux Falls), the second time, a Torta Ahogada, the best I’ve had since I was in Guadalajara in Mexico, and today a burrito of Birria meat. I wish them the best of luck because the food is amazing. I just hope they receive other clients since they are in the far north of town."
"Absolutely delicious! I had the carnitas tacos and they were amazing. Best I have found in Sioux Falls! What a wonderful place up on the North end of town, great lunch spot for us working out there."
"**Brand New Family Owned Mexican Restaurant** this place has only been open for about 2 weeks. Definitely a lot of good going on here, but some room for improvement as well. GG (nickname for my little buddy Google sent me which is short for the name I gave him “Google Guy”) joined me for dinner, see if you spot him in the photos. First of all, I love the menu. I have never seen a more applicative menu, laid out in a grid like that, it is so easy to pick your taco, burrito, or whatever and then line it up with the meat you want with it. Fantastic! On top of that, they have some elusive items on their menu. Menudo is difficult to find but there are a few places in town you can find it at. Pazole was previously impossible to find in town, I don’t think I’ve seen that on any other menu. I have friends and family from different parts of Mexico, Guatemala, and Chile and there is some debate on whether it should have radish in it and if it should be topped with cabbage or lettuce but I’ve never eaten a bad bowl of Pazole, it is my favorite Mexican soup! Pupusas are also a rarity locally. Prices are on the very reasonable side. 4 entrees and 4 horchata waters (if you’ve never had horchata water, rice milk with cinnamon, go try it!) for $55. Food portions are generous for that price and the horchata wasn’t a cup first filled with ice with a little bit of drink inside, there was no ice, so it was all drink. Again, generous! The two bother-in-laws work the front of the house taking orders and doing an excellent job of keeping floors and tables clean. There are only about a dozen tables and the restaurant will only seat about 40 people so this is a space that could fill up rather quickly. However, they did an excellent job of pre-bussing tables and cleaning them immediately after customers would leave. This might be a bit of a struggle for them should popularity increase, which I suspect it will with time. That brings me to the back of the house run by the sister-in-laws. Food coming out was very good, flavors were excellent. The only minor thing I could point out is that while the burritos come out with a roasted jalapeño, one of ours was pretty charred. Most people won’t eat this anyways but visually it was less than appealing. I love spicy food, I ate my son’s pepper instead of the one I got so it was fine, just a nitpicky detail on one hand, but consistency is very important on the other hand. This can be seen in my photos. One improvement I would hope for that will likely come with time and experience in their new kitchen is food times and timing. I think our first entree came out after 5 minutes and our last one after 20 minutes. Everyone was eating at different times. My wife ordered two different tacos and a papusa and all three items came out separately and at different times. Maybe there are kitchen limitations? Food was hot and fresh (including the tortillas, delicious!), it’s important not to sacrifice that but they definitely could work on getting food out together. Food time improvements combined with their speedy table turn overs will certainly add to their success. Great food with generous portions at a reasonable price, all ingredients for success. I suspect this will grow in popularity, hopefully they can iron out a few wrinkles along the way which will help with both throughput and customer satisfaction. I will definitely be returning to see how things are progressing and to get more delicious food!"
"My husband enjoyed the alpastor tacos and I had the birria tacos. Both were very good but our favorite was the alpastor. We also enjoyed a cheese and jalapeño tamales and it was one of the best we have ever had! Service was excellent and price point was very reasonable. We will be back!"
