Mr.Chen's Authentic Chinese Cooking

"Mr. Chen's is one of the few local Chinese restaurants offering anything approaching "real" Chinese food. The sautéed sweet pea leaves, pictured below, are one of my favorites, and just not available at the many Americanized Chinese restaurants in our area. Yesterday, we also ordered chicken lo mein and shredded beef bean curd with cilantro, both of which were very tasty and are photographed below. Someone who hasn't been to Mr. Chen's previously may find the approach to the restaurant through a grocery store redolent with smells a bit off-putting, but what waits inside the restaurant will be worth the trip through the store entrance. Wait staff can sometimes be a bit less than engaging, though usually solicitous. None of that may matter when the food, which is always delicious, arrives on your table, however."

"We've eaten here several times and it's always been good. We had the hotpot this latest visit and while the idea and experience was great, I personally was not a fan of the broths we got. To me there was an odd aftertaste. Everyone else liked them though and would recommend trying it. I recommend it too! Next time I'm just going to order of the normal menu which is absolutely fantastic! The basil chicken is a go to for us."

"This is my go to Chinese restaurant!! It is always clean and the food has never disappointed. My favorite dishes are their egg drop soup, rice noodles, and sesame shrimp. Of course, you can’t go wrong with any of their chicken dishes either!"

"I recently had the misfortune of dining at this restaurant that left me with a bitter taste, both literally and metaphorically. The establishment, Mr. Chen’s Authentic Chinese Cooking, had been recommended to me by a friend who had raved about their fried rice and roast duck. However, my experience was far from the culinary delight I had been promised. The fried rice, a staple in any respectable Asian cuisine, was a disaster. It was bland, under-seasoned, and lacked the characteristic smoky flavor that one expects from a well-prepared fried rice. It was as if the chef had forgotten the basic principles of cooking fried rice. The roast duck, which I had been eagerly anticipating, was another disappointment. Instead of the crispy skin and succulent meat that one associates with a well-roasted duck, what I got was a dish that was more akin to a baked duck. The skin was rubbery and lacked the delightful crunch, while the meat was dry and lacked flavor. The accompanying sauce which was only soy sauce, did little to salvage the dish, as it was overly sweet and failed to complement the duck. In conclusion, this restaurant was a letdown. The fried rice was a disaster, the roast duck was more like a baked duck, and the service was lackluster. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying dining experience. It's a shame, as I had high hopes for this place, but it seems they have lost their way in the kitchen."

"Stopped in here for to go lunch to head back to work with and I must say...I am extremely disappointed.....that I HAD NOT TRIED THEM EARLIER. by far in all my 30+ years of Chinese food the best General Tsos ever. And when they say spicy? They mean spicy. I can handle my spicy but lordy this was so painfully good. Hot, fresh and decently priced and portioned. I will be back!!!!"
