"I myself have worked there, starting in the Food Service Department for about 1 - 1 1/2 Years. Then switched over to Direct Care, Job description was Life Skill Trainer ( LST, LST 1 - Area Supervisor ) working with the Consumer's directly. Then I had the opportunity to transition a Consumer to new Community Facility. Waiver Program, by which the Consumer finalizing his/her integration back into Society, Community living with the Staff and Family, or in a Group House with few other Occupants, applying the skills tought of every day Living, just like we do. This Consumer achieved the Goal and is now a full member of the Community. I went back to BHDC for another 5 years. I must say: " I miss the Consumer's I worked with, a lot ". I also miss some of the best Staff, I was blessed to come to know, appreciate and respect, for being my mentors and friends. Even more, for accepting me for who I am and working with my skill set I came with, allowing me to implement my own skills with theirs and the setting of the Facility. I appreciate and respect the people who live at the Facility (Consumers). Through them, I gained the ability and experience, as well as the knowledge of understanding how they see us in their view in the world we provide for them. Thankful and appreciation of accepting me. Allowing me to share my experiences, knowledge and skillsets and implementing those with their own, even reinventing the idea of known and the new, that made the assignment of the program level they were to achieve, completed in less time and with fun, as well as with pride in showing off their hard work. Never give up, no matter how many times you fall on your butt. Get back up and try again, with every chance you get. Add, or change your way of thinking that made you fall short of reaching your goals. Ask, if you don't see, or know the answer. Don't dismiss " the old ways ". They still hold true, just reinvented to fit the new standards. All things and matters change over time, some very slow, some over night and forgotten by next morning. That's Life!!"
