Reviews of Great Clips
"I brought my two kids in for a haircut. My 17 year old had a nice cut with no issues by one woman. He was even offered a styling cream in his hair. My 9 year old was taken back by the older, blond lady who has been there forever. She asked me from the start if I wanted the same as last time, and I said yes. I was excited to have her because I knew she'd been there for a while and knew what she was doing. My older son was finished, and the woman that he had just had me pay right away for both even though my other son wasn't done. She never asked my younger son's age and ended up charging $19 each for both haircuts. My younger son's haircut should have been $17. I gave each stylist a tip and didn't say anything because I thought it'll be a good haircut. The older lady comes to the lobby with my younger son and asks how it looks. I politely asked if she could fade it a little more in a couple of areas and also asked if she could cut the top shorter. She made a comment about my son saying he wanted to grow his hair out and that he liked it that way. I politely asked if that was the same cut that was listed on the sheet she printed that he had previously, and she said no and started rambling about his colic and rushing, chopping here and there. In my head, I was thinking, why on earth are you going to ask me if I wanted his haircut the same as last time if you weren't going to follow my request? I was also thinking, why on earth are you going to disregard my request and follow what a 9 year old wants? Who is paying here? When she was finished, she didn't even ask how that looked. It was clear that she was mad that she had to cut more off. I still had seen areas that needed to be fixed, but I left. I was so frustrated and disappointed. I felt embarrassed even though I had done nothing wrong and was respectful. I wasted all of that money on a haircut that I am unhappy with and also gave a tip to someone who didn't deserve it. I also got charged extra for that haircut on top of it. I wasn't going to write a review because I typically don't, but I felt like I had to."
"Mona and Sydney were fantastic! Very welcoming. Super homey feeling."
"(Added one star for timely response) Edited: The person who cut my son's hair was very rude to him. He kept saying his nose itched badly to the stylist and she would say to sit still anyways and not move to itch it. Instead she proceeded to USE A BLOW DRYER ON HIS FACE!? My son does have sensory and processing related disorders, along with ADHD. He will shut down once he stands up for himself and is responded to negatively. He will mask his feelings, up until he is in a space where he feels safe and comfortable. Once my son's haircut was finished, I could tell something was wrong. He was visibly upset. He told me he was fine, only to breakdown in the car and say she was so mean and told me what happened. My son is always kind and bubbly with the people who cut his hair. She missed by his ears too, so right in the crease of his ear he had hairs that were still about an inch long. I need to remind him a few days before and build up to things like getting a haircut, going to the Dr or other appointments. Changes in his daily routine need to be known by him well ahead of time or it can create a negative experience. He gets embarrassed with me telling people about his struggles, so I usually don't say anything. Every single haircut before this he has been totally fine and most people who cut his hair, I know, have a blast talking to him. Unfortunately the University location in Fargo-Great Clips that he had a wonderful experience at last time, was way too busy to even check in online. I am now concerned that this negative experience is going to trigger behavior issues every time he needs a haircut. I understand not everyone is calm and patient enough to cut a child's hair, well then leave it to the other 3-4 stylists whom are there to do it!!! Or maybe you shouldn't be a stylist any longer if your main concern is getting cuts done as quickly as possible, instead of focusing on your client and their needs. It would have possibly added an additional 30 seconds to a minute to his haircut time to just let him itch his nose. He's the type of kid that I can't even leave tags on his clothes. Just down right mean, and very upsetting to me. I have been trying to get him to not mask his feelings and emotions so I can learn the best ways to help him. Thankfully he opened up to me in the car! He already struggles with trusting adults he is unfamiliar with. So if you or your child have sensory struggles I would maybe try a different location, or request someone who is familiar with cutting a child's hair whom might not be able to sit still. My son's requests were denied to make him more comfortable is the bottom line. Kids may need guidance but they are people too, and they deserve to be heard and respected. Response to Google review response: I did email customer service. It's privately owned location and waiting to hear from someone who owns location? So I already emailed them before the response. Response from Great clips team: Did receive email from someone higher up, they offered to pay me back and cover another haircut. They did apologize and I believe said something about considering adding something to their training for their stylists? I hope that they are being truthful, because with something as up close and personal as cutting someone's hair, people whom are neurodivergent really need that little bit of extra attention, consideration and compassion. I understand that during busy times taking that extra few minutes may be frustrating or difficult to adjust to. But doing so will assure clients coming back as repeat customers. So in the long run, it is worth the training, patience and understanding. I'm willing to give them another try for my son's next haircuts, this time at the other location. My initial review may have been a bit harsh, but as a mother, those momma bear instincts cannot be tamed."
"Made an appointment online, got a text saying I was up in 15min, I shouted up before the 15min was up and the door was locked and according to the door and website they were still supposed to be open for awhile."
