Steak 'n Shake,

"To be fair, most of our bad experience had to do with our waitress. We waited a very long time for her to take our order, had to repeat over and over and when the food came after a very long wait, some of it was either not there, or wrong. When we finally got it all, our food WAS good tasting, even though she told us she had forgotten to charge us for some of it and brought us what she said was the new total, crumpling up the old check in her hand. When we got ready to pay, we realized it was not even our check, but belonged to another table. We wrote down what each of us had ordered and took it to the register where they insisted the check belonged to the table with our number, so it must be ours. When we finally got that straightened out, the machine didn't want to accept the debit card so we had to pay cash. An altogether frustrating encounter. Oh and while 2 of us were working on that, the waitress came to our table and complained to the other 4 about how the restaurant had been taking her tips and now that they were reworking the check, she wouldn't be getting ours either. She informed us that she already had another job and wasn't going to give 2 weeks notice. After she left, someone at the table remarked that they just want to know where she goes next, so they don't go there. Not the restaurants fault since the food was good, but overall, not a great incitement for us to return."

"It has been a long 4+ years since my wife and I have gone to a Steak n Shake, but we finally were able to go while on a road trip. This is a genuine sit-down restaurant like the ones we grew up with, and the nostalgia was overwhelming. The food was delicious and the staff here are the greatest. Our waitress Abery took very good care of us and even called her manager when we inquired if the milkshake glass was buyable. Also just as we were getting ready to pay for our order a nice gentleman named Tyler came out from the kitchen with a to-go box and asked if we would like a box of fries since they were closing soon. Safe to say, we will be adding this to our Favorites List and be coming back again on our next road trip."

"Steak N Shake used to be a go-to restaurant back in the day. The food has always come out hot for me, and the shakes have always come out cold and non-melted. I just recently went, and the Bacon Double Cheeseburger with Fries was great tasting. The only downfall to this visit was I went into the restroom, and it smelled like it was about time to clean them?? The food was great, the shake was good, the server was attentive, and the price was good for 3 meals. They have also downsized their menu, sadly, but they still have decent options for burgers and fries."

"Friendly staff, everyone was sweet and welcoming, but getting a refill is nearly impossible. The cotton candy shake is awesome, and the seasoning for the steak burger and fries is great. The husband was sad because they said they didn't serve chili anymore. Prices can't be beat--we both ate (and left stuffed) for $18, AND we each got a free regular sized shake (through the rewards in the app). Highly recommend!"
