"I love hiking here, always peaceful and I enjoy seeing the turkeys, deer, and blue jays"
"We walked trails in a few areas."
"We drove all the way to the end of the road, to upper Madera Canyon for a hike. The “amphitheater” hike was fairly well shaded, which helped a lot in the heat. The “amphitheater” is 3 benches and a small “stage”, so it is nothing to see. I liked the fact that the parking lots had clean, albeit rustic/outhouse type” bathrooms. The trails are NOT well marked. I also though $8 for a day parking pass was a lot (unless you had a certain state wide pass, to park for free. VictorB"
"Beautiful high elevation hiking trails with multiple trailheads to choose from. I hiked the Madera Canyon trail that takes you to Bog Spring 1.3 mile and Kent Springs 2.5 miles from the main trail head. Once you reach Bog Spring, the Kent Spring trail is an additional 1.2 miles up the mountain. Terrain ranges from uphill wide and rocky, to very narrow cliff side trail with fine dirt and rocks. I saw lots of lizards, butterflies, birds, deer and two snakes (one with a rattle - on the trail to Kent Spring). Peaceful and breezy, it was nice hearing the wind blow through the pine trees."
"We visit Madera Canyon in February each year when we rent a cabin for the month near the top parking lot. In the Canyon we hike the many trails. We descend to Green Valley for bicycling although it’s considered a challenging ride to ride all the way to the top parking lot from the the valley — about 20 miles and 3000’ of climbing. My favorite hike is the Bog Springs Trail to Kent Springs. Expansive views. Birders should check out the variety of birds along the nature trail too. There are lots of picnic areas all up and down the canyon. The Bog Springs Campground is usually busy but doesn’t accommodate big rigs or more than a few medium rigs. Oh yeah, in the winter months, snow is not a rare occurrence."
